Looking to buy a 2000 QX4 for $8,000. What are the major problems I need to lookout for? Car has 92,000 on it. How is the suspension and transmission?

Thanks,

Mike

Welcome to NICO!!!

The 2000 is a great year, last year for that setup.. 3.3L V6 single cam... Good solid motor, however it does use a timing belt, so be sure you take note on its replacement. Its supposed to be replaced every 105,000 miles, so take that in mind... Im not sure how much itd cost to do a timing belt, probably in the neighborhood of 500 for parts and labor, so its not real bad. Definitely DIY-able if your up to it... we cna provide advice on that job.

The drivetrain is ROCK SOLID, not really many problems.. Read the FAQ stickied above, it outlines what goes wrong. Most of the problems seem to be with the later ones with the 3.5L..

Great price for 92k... Id do it....

Obviously everything else applies that a used car with that many miels will need. Youll probably need to do some catching up on maintenance that hasnt been put off, but overall the cars are very reliable.

Any other questions just post back!

I just bought a 99.5 two weeks ago. . I LOVE it so far. . I'm on here looking for known problems, and I'm finding few -- like was mentioned, seems like a solid motor. The biggest complaint is lack of power, but I have no issues with that. I read up on 'em and expected this thing to A) be incredibly slow and B) handle like a truck (my own assessment). . it handles nicely, and there's plenty of power around town. It's not a Porsche 911, so don't expect too much.

VQ would def. be better, but I wouldn't care -- didn't buy a truck for flat out speed.

The all mode (auto) 4wd is incredibly good -- my ride doesn't have a VLSD, but I'm not caring so much. . I can just floor it and take off, and the 4wd sorts everything out for me.

This is my first 4wd vehicle. . :o

Anyway nothing bad to say about it yet.
