I've got a 2000 I30. It is a really good car. I love it. I have a new issue with it. I am getting a high pitched whine when I turn the key on, periodically as the car is running and when I turn the car off. The sound is coming from under the hood. I was thinking fuel pump, but I thought that it was in the tank. Any thoughts?

Your fuel pump is under the rear seats, check your belts and pulleys

It's not that kind of whine. Sound like a solenoid type of whine.

It could be a motor mount. These motor mounts are actually mechanical and when they go bad they give off a whine. You may also hear it when your shifting out of park or leaving from a stop. Does it sound like it whines for a few seconds and goes away. One option is you can just unplugg them but if it is the motor mounts i get that checked quick because they can fry your computer.

Thanks for your input. What is doing is it whines for a few seconds when the key is turned to the on position. It whines for a couple of seconds at random times and normally when I turn the car off.
