I was driving a short distance and all of a sudden my radio (aftermarket stereo with subwoofer btw) went off and the lights in the dash started flickering off and on rapidly. Also the headlights went out for the most part and was only dim. I am guessing it is the alternator or some sort of loose connection. I just want to know what is probably causing and where I should start looking. Thanks

Ok guys now I wake up this morning to try to start it and at least get it to a shop and see if It is still doing it. Now it won't crank at all. When I turn the key all i hear is this grinding sound. When I do try to crank it and the car is in the on position the lights and radio do come on but I am guessing this is having something to do with my problem last night. Any help would be appreciated.

I just looked under the hood and the battery terminal is badly corroded. I am guessing that is my main problem. Would the car be able to have radio and lights on if the battery was corroded or do you guys think it might be a different problem.

You have to replace that corroded battery cable as well as clean the battery connectors and terminals. You can buy battery connector protectant from car parts store to minimize possibility of corrosion. The corrosion on the cable may be due to weak battery spewing acid fumes around the battery area as it heats up. A good battery must have >12.5VDC. If voltage is below 12VDC, the battery is technically 'dead.' If the battery voltage remains below 12.5VDC even after recharge, it is weak and has to be replaced. Check the alternator connections and wiring and watch out for 'crossed wires.' With the engine running, a good alternator must have a steady charging voltage of >13.8 VDC (spec is 14.1-14.7 VDC).
