When driving my I30t, if I get on the gas hard, the trans will shift down and as the car accelerates, it will not go into the next gear. It will just race until I let off the gas. I get no dash light indicating anything. It has about 114,000 mi and I did recently change the transmission filter and fluid (not a true flush, just a drain and replace).

Any ideas on what I can look for before I take it to the dealer or transmission shop? Would getting it flushed possibly make a difference?

Just to clarify, if I drive normally (not stepping on the gas to pass or accelerate quickly on the entrance ramp of a highway for example), the car shifts fine.

Will it shift as it approaches redline when you stomp hard on the gas? Sometimes when I hit the gas hard in my I30 it won't shift until ~6000rpm. When you hit the gas hard the computer interprets that as a desire to accelerate quickly and thus will hold the gears longer before upshifting. I would recommend against having the transmission flushed with over 100K on it unless it has had its transmission fluid changed before.

Thanks for the reply Matt. I know what you are describing, and it's different then that. It didn't start doing this until about 6 months ago. I don't typically drive the car too hard, but expect it to perform when I need it to. I did notice today that when I floored it, the rpm climbed to about 5500 where it stayed until I let up on the pedal about a 1/2-inch and then it was a hard shift into the next gear.

I have been searching in the FSM, but I'm lacking some of the specialized tooling. I'd really kick myself if I end up taking it to a shop only to be charged $500 told something like the shift solenoid valve B has a broken wire.

There is a TSB on transmissions acting up on the 00-01 models, you may want to call an Infiniti dealer and give them your VIN to see if it's in the affected range.
