Evie's car has 86,000 miles on it now, and the car has started acting up. Sometimes, while driving, it will stumble, then the transmission would slip, then the "OD off" light would flash a few times, then the "Service Engine Soon" light would illuminate.

It only has done it 3 times, once while I was in the car with her.

We took it to the dealership, and Derek said it was a revolution sensor, and they had to order one. It will be about $360.00 to fix.

Does anybody have any experience with a similar problem, or know much about how the rotation sensor works? Is this part of the traction control system?

We left her car at the dealership, and they gave her a choice of a 2007 FX45 or a 2007 G35 sedan to drive (they got all new courtesy cars this year). I talked her into the G35. She is driving all over the state, and I thought she would prefer the G35 for the ride and gas mileage.

Update:

The car is finished and I will be getting it in a few minutes. They replaced the revolution sensor at the bill is $353.16, which includes 2 days of driving the loaner car around and a full wash and detail.

Jeff,

Did the revolution speed sensor fix this issue? I'm having the exact same problems occur on my 2000 I30t with 94k miles... I took it to the $tealership and they said the whole transmission needed replacement for $5000 If this (much) more reasonable fix worked that would be very exciting! Please let me know how it has worked for you since the fix... THANKS!

Failure to change ATF every 30k results in acid formation which causes out of warranty failures...........eats seals and plastic parts.

Newer 5AT even recommend this with Synthetic ATF.

Very Common failure on abused transmissions from lack of maintenance.

You can expect more if you don't get a handle on these things. Change every fluid every 2 years [diff, brake, PS, ATF, service AC compressor oil otherwise you'll be buying a new evaporator and compressor soon.
