I have a 2000 I30t that has recently started pinging. Pulled the codes and nothing has come up. I have always run 91 octane in the car. I thought maybe it was some bad gas, but my other car runs fine using the exact same gas. This problem has been on going for over a month now. The car has 100k and has never been touched. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

Welcome to Nico..

Also your combustion chambers may have some deposists.

Use some seafoam thru the intake.

The smoke will likely scare you but deposits are a source of preignition as well as lowering effective compression ( another source of pre-ignition).

Your solution is to get those combustions chambers cleaner.

Also start adding detergents to your gas, like techron regularily, its cleans more than just injectors.

But you can also DIY w/ Seafoam or tell a shop to clean your combustion chambers.

Another way to do it ,is to gas up with race gas and then run the car HARD say 120 mph for severarl minutes ( If you have a location were you can do this).

The race gas will make it safe on the engine and control pre-ignition, while the heat of the hard run will help get rid of those deposists.

Add a couple bottles of techron beforee you do this to take advanatge of the cleaning.

This summarizes all the different solutions to your problem ( assuming your gas is good and your timing is on)

Thanks for the advice. Where do you get the seafoam from? Napa

Most majoy auto parts stores.

Follow directions carefully or any moderately qualified garage can do it.

On your car, to use SeaFoam, you would disconnect the brake booster line and let that "suck it up". You can also run some int he gas tank for additional cleanup. Below is a picture of a brake booster line which may help you locate the proper hose:

I ran the sefoam through the intake and it seemed to help. I will probably have to do it one more time though.

Thanks,

Brian

Good deal. Try running some through the gas tank as well. It should help clean the injectors...
