hey i have a 2000 i30 and im having a couple problems with it.

when i start it in in the cold it immediately shuts off. i usually have to rev the engine to keep it started till the temp gauge goes about half way. after doing this the car sometimes shakes while im stop at a light. and the most recent problem is that today (i guess i didnt warm up the car long enough) i was driving in a parking garage going downhill and the car turned off and the breaks locked (i immediately threw it into park to stop the car from hitting other cars).

if anyone could help me with the first problem it would probably help with the rest. if you need more info please ask. thanks a lot.

First thing is to have the codes pulled so you can see the errors in the ECU. We can then look up the codes to held diagnose it. AutoZone and such should be willing to pull the codes for free.

My first suggestion would be to have the IAC (idle air control) valve and throttle body cleaned. If the IAC gets stuck it can cause there to be insufficient airflow to the engine on cold starts.

Follow "audtatious" suggestion so we can correctly diagnose your problem.

Based on the symptoms provided, looks like too much exhaust air is being re-introduced to the combustion chamber causing stalling - EGR valve/tube issue.

Problem with IACV, fuel delivery and even MAF sensor are possible. The fault code(s) from an OBD II scan should point to the problem.
