I did a few searches this morning and found some great information on the Maxima but not on the I30.

The silver paint on the A/C vents, radio, and A/C controls has become gummy and is coming off on my hands like gum off the back of old duct tape and it really is ugly.

I bought a replacement from a used parts place that is bad, but not quite as bad as mine. I want to swap out the parts and then clean up my originals and re-paint the silver part.

I can get the A/C vents out, and get to the top screws on the radio & A/C control assembly, but I don't see how to get to the bottom screws. I am afraid of breaking the beautiful fake wood grain plastic in the console so I am asking for help from you guys.

Does anybody have pictures of this process or can you help me with the location of the lower screws or attachment points so I don' break anything?

Thanks!

I have done it on both 97&99 I30 - mostly clips and a couple of Philips screws. Here are links to an I30 and Maxima head unit removal procedures. I hope they work for you
