I hope you're able to tell me what this part is called and if this part could be used in my I30 from a 98 Maxima. I noticed a missing L-shaped plastic part under the air scoop. I'm sorry I don't know the terminology. This is what I need help naming. It's item #10 in the diagram on this website, http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/1997-I ... -i30-4.htm

I'd also like to get your opinions on this. The car has been having issues stalling out while Idling, at a stop light, after the engine warms up. Usually around 5-10 miles of city driving. No codes, no service lights. I was told I have a vacuum leak, but it was repaired at that time. (or so I was told). I noticed afterwards a clamp was missing and one was very loose. I replaced the missing one and tightened the other.
Now the service light is on and I'm getting Code PO505, (idle control system malfunction). Had the throttle sensor replaced, seemed to fix the issue at first check. However, after highway driving the car will stall at idle once you come to a stop again. Starts up right away afterwards, and appears to idle normally, but for limited time. I'm being told it's happening because of the missing L-shaped piece, and that the car isn't getting the right amount of air. I'm having my doubts that this is the sole reason for this issue, and I'm wondering if the throttle sensor even needed replacing. Btw, the IACV was replaced about 2 years ago. I don't know if it's gone bad again, as no one can test it.

Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well, discovered it's simply called a connector. Go figure. http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/partloc ... atalogid=0
According to the guys at the parts store, this can cause the car to stall since it may not be getting proper air flow while idling. I may not have needed that sensor after all, as this could have also caused the same PO505 code.
Does this sound pretty accurate?

I wish I knew of a trust-worthy KC mechanic, who actually knows about this car and would listen to my concerns. After asking what the missing piece was and if it was causing an issue, I was told by several mechanics that I "didn't really need that part". Why would a car no longer need a part it originally came with? Argh...
I'm wondering how that part ended up missing in the first place, I also wonder how the one clamp disappeared and the other became so loose.

Hey there sounds like you have a frustrating problem.

There are two things it would look at.

-I would remove the mass airflow element and look inside of the forward facing section.
If there is a dead bug or oil buildup on the heated wire could cause the output voltage (input to the computer) to within tolerance but way out of range for idle.

-I would remove the idle air control valve. This is the little black round thing under the intake tube.
What happens when these typically go bad is the coolant tubing that heats the air as it goes into the intake starts to leak. It typically shorts out the motor and can actually cause a direct short to make its' way to the engine computer. Over the last several years I have seen people just replace the motor itself leaving the leaking pipe still in there...leaking. It usually isn't long before the leak causes the same problem. However if your engine control computer has had a direct short it needs to be replaced. There is really not a whole lot to do about it at this point.

Thank you. I appreciate your suggestions. I will try to follow these steps this weekend. The connector should be here by then also, so I'll be able to handle it all then.
Thanks again!!

SteveTheTech is not kidding about a leaking IACV (shorted motor) causing a short that can RUIN the car's computer..That is typically not a low cost replacement item.
