Hello everyone,

The local Infiniti Dealer tells me that I need to replace the cabin air filter in my 2000 Infiniti I30. My understanding is that there is no cabin filter in 2000 model. I combed through the owner's manual and there is no mention of this filter. I think it was added in the I35 starting 2002. The 2003 I35 brochure mentions cabin air flow control with microfiltration. Could someone please clarify this?

I am getting tired of these idiot service advisors at the dealerships.

The other problem I had was with the blower motor noise. It makes a humming noise at low fan speeds. I found a service advisory from Infiniti for all of their vehicles about abating this noise by adding a shroud to the motor. I am surprised that Infiniti will wait for the customers to come and complain and get this taken care of rather than fixing the problem. Apparenntly, this is a common problem. In my case, the dealer replaced the entire blower unit. I wonder if that was necessary or if they are socking Nissan for this. I can never tell.

Thanks,dabral

Looks like I will be the only one replying to my own question. In any case, I removed the glove box and I don't see any filter there. I can see the blower motor, but I don't see any cabin filter.

I also called Infiniti Customer Service and they confirmed that there is no such filter in the 2000 model. It was added in the subsequent models. The filter costs only $50 and the dealer will charge you $150 for replacing it (highway robbery).

I found the service advisor at the dealer to be dishonest. I heard him argue with a customer about a $1100 bill that was supposed to be $400. He called his house and got his Dad's approval. He tried to do the same with my wife. Luckily, my wife asked him to contact me directly. What a bunch of greedy morons.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I hope others who own a 2000 I30 may find it useful.

Might want to watch that dealer very carefully! Even have a discussion with Infiniti Customer Service. The cabin filter on the 2000 Q is described in the FSM (didn't check the Owner's manual) and is easily replaced after disassembling the lower side of the passenger dash. The filters are affordable from Joe and come with the required two elements for the one part number. Judging from the previous owner's replacement mileage, looks like 12K - 15K miles, like the engine air filter, is about right. After all, it is the same air.
