Woulda thought Nissan/Infiniti would have worked that issue out by 2000. My '97 i30 had the same problem last spring. Got in my car after class one day and the thing just plain wouldn't work...tried dinkin' around with it and nothing worked, so I went out and bought a Pioneer unit that has been little more successful in the year I've had it. First it was just the USB cable wouldn't work, then the thing started cutting out every so often when I would push buttons on the face of it, now it only turns on when it wants to and will randomly turn itself off...especially when I hit big bumps. Half the time it doesn't work at all anymore. I'm not entirely sure it's not partially attributable to some type of electrical problem with the car though, b/c my interior door lights and dome light flicker randomly sometimes and I've been having minor issues with my door locks. I need to take it in and get it fixed or replaced before the warranty runs out on it, I'm a little TO'd about it though considering it was a $400+ job by the time it was installed and everything....being a college student I don't really have that kinda money to throw around.
Also learned this...DON'T EVER listen to Best Buy car audio folks for advice on your audio. They're good for almost nothing except trying to make BB money off of people too dumb to think twice about listening to them. Had a guy try to tell me I'd have to replace my entire speaker setup just to replace one bad speaker because of the Bose system when it's really all about calibrating the audio correctly after the install.
Anyway...I'm off subject...sorry for the rant, but I do find it peculiar that someone with a 3 years newer, and entirely different body style i30 has been having the same problems I did on my '97. Wonder if the G's will have the same issues in a few years?
