Hi guys. My mom has a 2000 G20 that is having some problems after we replaced the stock airbox with a apexi cone filter.

The filter was bolted right up to where the stock airbox connected without any special adapters, but he did have to modify some of the holes for it to fit.

The car seems to have lost a ton of power. Acceleration is really poor with no low end power. High end seems to be affected also.

I am not sure what my dad did with the vacuum hose that went from the airbox to the throttle body, but what should be done with it?

He also broke the hose off that was on the "boost sensor" near the MAF, but he ordered and installed a new one with no change in performance.

Any help on figure this out would be awesome.

Thanks

Pax

edit: the car is completly stock before the filter and ran perfectly.

Go back to stock airbox with a clean stock filter. Cold outside air will always produce more power than hot under hood air, and the stock filter is better and cheaper.

Otherwise, be cool and down on power.

How is the stock airbox better? It doesnt pull in from any outside source anyway.

The car seems like it is running really rich or something, but I dont really know.

I know people have put cone filters on before, somebody must know what is wrong...

It feels like the car has lost like 50 of its 140HP.

Wiggle the connection on the MAF.

Simply put an open cone filter under the hood with no enclosed box directing cool air from outside is going to produce these crappy results. All a cone filter does is suck air HOT air from under the hood and bring HOT air into the intake causing heat soak. If you want true intake fabricate a sheet metal box and enclose the filter and direct it into the wheel well. Make sure you put on a bypass filter on the end as to not suck water into the exhaust causing even more havoc.

I get that part. Actually things are better than before now. My dad changed where he had the vacuum line hooked up.

Low end is still a bit lacking, but high end may be better than it was with the stock airbox.

From what we saw in the engine compartment where the airbox was positioned, there is no spot where cool air comes in anyway, so why would just putting a cone make anything worse?

Your getting confused with what you can see and what the engineers saw when they built the car.

Believe they pay these guys top dollar for a reason. If you want to try then build something directing air either directly from the front or directly underneath funneled to the air box.

Some cars take better to cone filters than others.Outside of teh SR20det application (space reasons) I think with stock airbox on Nissan/Infinit.

I had a nice hi $$, cone filter on my Q45, when I bought it used, replaced it with stock airbox at some expense.

Fred..:)
