2000 Frontier

I have a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab, V6 3.3L date of manufacture on door plate is 4/99. It needs a new (used) engine. When I look for engines on the internet it says 5/99 and later. Evidently Nissan made these trucks with a different motor for 1 month. I have tried using a '00 xterra motor and a 6/99 Frontier motor, both of which I was told would work but don't. I have heard that the cranks are different and the timing doesnt match what the computer is throwing out. Anybody have any ideas what the other differences might be? Thanks for your support !!!!
