I am working on a Frontier that won't start. Here is what I have determined so far. The engine has plenty of spark, the fuel pump is working, and fuel is spraying out of the injectors. I didn't have a fuel pressure gauge at the time to test fuel pressure so I pulled the fuel rail up so that I could watch for fuel spray from the injectors as I spun the distributor shaft. They were spraying good. So I figured the pressure must be pretty good for that to happen. The truck will run as long as carb cleaner is sprayed into the throttle body. I was told that the truck was fueled up at a BP gas station just before this happened. I collected some fuel from the fuel line into a glass jar but didn't see anything visually wrong with it.
Is there anything that I need to try that I may have missed?

Thanks,
Matt

were plug wires off and the firing order messed up?

Are the plugs wet? (Really easy to check on a KA motor)

check wiring to MAF or TPS

I mentioned that the problem started after he filled up at a BP gas station. The truck was running fine before this. After I got home, I transferred the fuel I collected into a glass jar. The day I collected it, it didn't seem strong like fuel does. The next day however, I opened the jar and it was very strong to the smell like I expect fuel to be. I don't know what the deal is at this point. I am going over there in the morning with another fuel pump that I am going to run directly from an external fuel tank and plumb it to the fuel rail and see if it will run then. If it does then there is obviously something wrong with the fuel in the tank.

It turned out that there indeed was diesel fuel in the tank. I ended up removing the relay and jumpering the fuel pump so that it would empty the tank into 2-1/2 buckets 5 gallons each. I then put in 5 gallons of 87 and all is now good.
