My biggest issue is fuel managment. Ok lets say I have 370cc from sr20det and what else is necesary along with... Apexi SAFC2, Greddy Emanage..?

Welcome aboard. You can do it for less than$1000.Get a t-25 and manifold. use an FMU for fuel management, get an intercooler off ebay and your set. I wish I had gone this route for my first set up.Good luck.

For the FMU what would you suggest using (given budget constraints)?

Maybe something like megasquirt?

for fuel management i would go:

SafcSr 370cc injectorsJAW wideband

then just pull some timing according to the amount of boost you plan to run.

Negative. No electronic hooha. A rising rate fuel pressure regulator (FMU) and stock injectors with stock ecu. No worries. At worst you drop a few degrees out of timing, but not always. A lot of folks run 18-22 deg with no problem. You can run 7-8 psi all day with an open bov and spank 5.0 mustangs all day long.I'm getting a new turbo this weekend, and if my car don't run right, I'm yanking the 550's and going back stock injector/ecu with a FMU.

IMHO, the fuel system is probably the most critical part of a turbo setup. Without proper fueling, you will blow up your engine in a quickness, costing you wayyy more than your 2000 dollar budget.

I mean yea sure, guys get away with running a 8:1 all the time at low boost. However if you have a boost spike, or wastegate failure your engine is toast. The thing is, even at low boost a 8:1 with stock injectors is at its absolute max capacity. Meaning you have no room for error at all. Man, even if you have a super cold day, and the air is much denser, your going to be running lean.

For a fuel system i would get the 370's, for about 100 bucks or so, and use a piggy back. You will need to save some cash to get it tuned however. I would skip the whole tuning it yourself part if this is your first time with a turbod car. Its really not that hard, but if you get it dyno tuned by a pro you dont have much to worry about. Just make sure the guy tuning it knows you want a conservative, and reasonably safe tune. Thats probably 400-500 dollars in your fuel system. Oh and you need to buy a 255 fuel pump.

Another thing you cant cheap on is a turbo. In the last 3 mounths we have had at least two guys(one being me, lol) blow cheap turbos in their first day of boosting. What you wana do like previously mentioned is buy a used name brand turbo. Look on ebay, or our classifieds. Heck, a 'Mod here has whats probably a killer deal on a t3/t4 setup that would be a great buy for you. Talk to Florida about that if your interested.

A manifold however, guys have been known to cheap on and get away with it. Generally speaking they buy an ebay manifold. I have heard the new ones arnt nearly as bad as they used to be. If it were me, i would run a ebay manifold with a piece of flex pipe in your downpipe to make sure there is as little stress on the manifold as possible. Or, an even better option would be to get a cast iron manifold like revhard, or treadstone. They will last you well beyond the life of your engine. They are a little more pricey however.

Oil feed and return lines can be done for under 100 bucks, read the sticky at the top of the page and buy your oil feed lines from McMaster-Carr. Then buy your oil drain stuff from JGS.

Get an ebay intercooler, they work just as well as a high dollar one. I would also buy a ebay intercooler kit, which comes with a variety of bends and couplers so you can cut and join them together to get your intercooler pipes done.

I would make sure you have extra cash ontop of your 2k just for odds and ends, a turbo setup will nickle and dime you to death.

The rest should be spent on a custom downpipe, and then an exhaust.

I don't disagree with you on the fuel management deal, but the OP doesn't seem real turbo savvy, and I'm sure won't be able to tune with a safc. And the issues you named are inherent to every turbo set up. A safc isn't going to stop a boost spike. I just think your first set up should be the most simple and inexpensive. That way he can enjoy the thrill of the boost with out a lot of cash outlay or a bunch of electronic stuff that he knows nothing about that can still give you problems, I would rather spend $500-$800 and blow, than $2500-$3000 and blow. I say cheap boost first then if you want to upgrade, you have to get some type of fuel management, either safc or tuned ecu. PS. I also meant to add that he may be like me and not have a dyno shop nearby.

Yea your right about the piggy backs not being able deal with a boost spike either.

Really your best and easiest bet would be to get a tuned ECU. Emance does one for 135, you really cant beat that price for what you get.

yeah i LOVE tuned ecu's the boost is limited to the max flow rate of the injectors instead of "what your piggyback is tuned for", in other words you can crank the boost up to 20 psi if your injectors can handle it without adjusting anything.

For low boost, the stock fuel pump should suffice. I'm running 9psi daily with a stock fuel pump, however one time I had it up to 15 psi and heard my fuel cut-out, so I'd guess that 15psi-ish is the max..

I would recommend a used sr t-25 or t-28, even tho there are mixed results using ebay turbos, I wouldn't want to be the one recommending it...but I WILL admit that I'm running an ebay t3/t4 daily w/ no problems. Go ahead and get the ebay turbo mani, fmic, and exhaust they should hold up fine..

I have an e-mance tuned ecu, and the jury is still out on it because of all the problems I have had. I'm getting a new turbo, so as soon as I get that on, I'll be able to tell how the tune is.But you have to remember, for $135 you only get the daughterboard, you have to solder in a socket yourself, plus there is something you have to do to your stock ecu, like change some jumper or something. But you can buy a plug and play ecu from Jason (e-mance) for $290. I don't know what his discount is for Nico members but his regular price is $290.I was trying to help the op save money. When you go the ecu route, you are adding atleast another $400 in injectors and ecu, And it could be more. Up to $800 if you went deastchwerks injectors and Enthalpy.Either way his life will be over as he knows it. Once you turbo, there is no turning back!

Look at my setup for sale. Get a nice t3/t4 setup like I have for sale or cna be pieced together. Get ebay FMIC, Walboro fuel pump and safc. Then your all good to run 8psi. If you want more down the road get 555injectors and ecu tune now. So when you up the boost you have no worries. Cost you $800 for a set from deastchwerks and enthalpy ecu tune.

yeah you won't regret it..I have a jwt tune and 550cc nismo injectors (equivalent to 615cc) @9psi, I would crank the boost up but idk if my engine will last very long..so I run low boost all day long, but it's nice to have that option for 300rwhp(tuned ecu w/ fat injectors, big mafs, big fp, mbc, ftw!!)

Nice thing about ecu tune is boost spike won't kill your engine instantly.

Is the OP going to respond? I mean we are giving him solid gold turbo info and doesn't even post back to say he is going this way or that? j/k Op, I hope you choose the best route for you. Personally, I think turbo charging is the greatest way to increase your performance. It is relatively inexpensive and you can decide when you want to use it. If you stay out of boost, you are just driving a normally aspirated car; let that turbo spool up, and hang on baby!I hope your first set up goes well and you enjoy it

Realistically, it's going to be hard to do it under $2k if you want it done right.

Cheap T28 manifold plus elbow = $250 - $300Nissan S15 turbo Spec R = $700 - $800FMIC = $250 - $400Fuel injectors used 370cc = $80 - $100Downpipe = $100----------------------$1380 - $1700 depending on where you get your parts.

That's not including all the hardware, fitting, pipings, gaskets, fuel management Add another $500 for those additional parts + if you're going FMU route, and another $2k if you're going standalone.

He can easily get these parts cheaper using a used t25-t28 turbo, manifold and ebay FMIC are cheaper than that...

Also why would he even think about using a standalone for that setup?

I guess it's kinda rude for a first post but anyway hello everyone! Been reading forums for a while now, guess it was time to join!

I dunno, I think when you are turboing your car. Do it right, $2K is not ENOUGH to do it right.

When you want some turbo stuff, let me know. I'll gladly sell you some parts at those prices. There are many good kits for a lot less. The biggest part is the turbo. But with proper care, you can make an ebay kit a good one.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...m#ADSThis is one of the most complete kits I have seen, and the price is great. Even if you chunked the turbo and got a t25( for at most $200) you are still looking at less than a grand. Add fuel injectors and ecu for $600 - $800, and your still under $2k.

Sounds like a good set up. You could have saved some cash in places, but not too bad.McMaster Carr has the oil restrictor for about $12 bucks shipped, but you could make your own with a fitting from any parts store and just solder the end closed and drill it out.

You can do it easily for 2K. Just piece the kit together yourself. And don't cheap out on the tune. Just by the name, i can tell you are Lithuanian, just like myself. Labas, jei reik pagalbos, tik klausk.

its like $2 a foot, some barbed/threaded fittings and your set.

Thought Id bring this back sense ill be having about the same amount to spend and some input would be great. Im thinking of buying a 94 with 70k and I have a few boost questions. I want to get BC stage 2 cams on top of what else is needed for this project. I plan on getting a tune for 8-10 psi so I dont blow it but thats about it because it is my first. Do you all think I should do a rebuild first? Maybe just gaskets and valve seals?
