Hey guys - I recently bought an 89' black 240sx coupe with a KA24DE motor in it. I know only about rotories (owned a couple FCs)... so bare with me.

I'd like to have a smog legal, reliable drift/touge car with about that much power and good torque. Am I just dreaming this could be possible?

Is it possible to attain 200hp with relatively inexpensive mods ie intake/exhaust/etc or do I have to dive into the motor internals? Having an FC was a nightmare when it came to smog, so I'd like to keep it as clean as possible.

Any suggestions and/or help, besides "go **** yourself"? Haha. Thanks...

you will need to do motor internals. If you'll search on 200hp KA in this forum you will find a parts list to get you to 200hp.

Awesome, thanks... I'll do that right now. I'll probably have more questions in the future...

id imagine its gonna take some creative port work.. 200hp from a 2.4L isnt unheard of.

also, are you sure you have a ka24de? 89's came with ka24e's.

Yes I'm sure... it was swapped in before I purchased the car. So what exactly would it take to get around 200hp? Would anyone be so kind as to make a list for me... and possibly include prices? really know nothing about these motors... or piston motors in general. Thanks for your time...

Thanks, Aries. So with that... I should be putting down some decent power?

Then there begs another question... should I just turbo the KA motor? How hard is this to do and how efficient is it? Would it still be smog legal? How much would a turbo conversion cost?

a junk yard turbo kit is not really too efficient, and runs about $1900 to get going.A shop built turbo system will run about $3500.

a turbo system will make more power for the money, but isn't right for everyone.

Are there any good resources for KA24DET builders? Could I keep the motor stock internally and run boost?

This may sound silly, but read all of the posts in the KA-T forum here at NICO. Look up...it's right there. :)

The guys in that forum swear by a book called Maximum Boost, by Corky Bell. I don't have a copy yet, but word on the street ;) is that the book will give you tons of general turbo information that will be crucial when planning your setup. Don't except to see the KA24DE in there, but it should still be *extremely* useful.

And yeah, lots of people are running some pretty impressive setups with stock internals. If I've learned anything from reading the KA-T forum, it's that fuel management is the key. Detonation is the enemy. :)

Ah...also, Orion's website has tons of info on his own turbo odyssey. I can't remember the URL, but I'm sure someone here has it.

Corky Bell is the bomb! He's also written a book on Nitrous, and 2 more on just superchargers.

Wow, sorry guys... I am new and didn't realize that there was a KA turbo forum. Eh, I'm used to making an arse out of myself. Thanks for all the help, fellas!

u don't need turbo to achieve 200 rwhp. once you go turbo you will become boost hungry and will eventually want to completely rework your internals so you can run more boost
