First time posting....long time lurking....

Looking to purchase a 1993 vert and planning on doing a RB25DET swap. The car I found is in excellent condition interior/exterior, no rust but does have 200,000 miles on the body. Are there any future problems I might encounter with this old of a vert and that powerful of a engine? Really hate to pass up this deal but I dont want to spend 5-6000 on a swap then put it in car that wont be able to handle it in the future.

Anyone have a high mileage RB swap into a vert and if so how is it holding up???Thanks!

Hey freepunk...

Welcome,

Great question... I'm sure we'll be able to help you out.

I have a '92 with 162k miles on it. I have a rb20det installed in mine. It's far from stock (should be around 240hp now) and I have no issues with the chassis handling that power.

ASC did a great job fortifying the chassis to handle engine torque. I do have my complaints at times about cowl shake from how it handles bumps in the road, but never at all noticed any weakness due to acceleration or "launching" the car.

I know that AZHitman should have his KA-T pushing well over 300hp and 300,000,000 lbs ft of tq.. and I've not heard him complain. (hopefully he'll pop in and give you his opinion as well).

I also know that there are a couple guys working on LS1 swaps in their 'verts.

We have a guy with a RB26 swap running as well... I've never heard him complain about how the car handles the power either.

Florida was planning a VG30dett swap at one point.. not sure what the status is on that...

Anyhow... my point is that there are a lot of guys here with some pretty serious engine swaps and I've never heard anyone worry about the miles on the chassis or the strength and stability of the chassis and how it handles power from the engine.

Go for it!!!

Chassis mileage really shouldn't make much of a difference for a swap unless the car has rust issues.

You will want to make sure that "everything else" (windows, brakes, suspension, etc.) is not worn out or gets refreshed.

ditto about rust. Everything else - would be the same issue even if the car was 100k miles. New bushings, check for rust, new top, ..etc. Rust dude...thats the killer...look for that man. Everything else that could possibly "fail" would be the same for a guy with 100k miles...believe it.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Yeah I really wanted to get a car out of this state because mostly everything I look at here is caked in rust. The original car I posted about I just had some bad vibes from the seller so decided to pull out of the sale.

REALLY had my sights set on a vert but it looks like I may be picking up a fastback SE next week. This car looks really clean and I checked the usual areas of rust (by rear spoiler, wheel wells, spare tire area and floorboards under both sides) and it looks pretty good. But I will still keep my eye open for a clean vert. The fastback will have to do till then.

Cant wait to get this car! They are quite rare in my state and I have had a very hard time finding a decent one around here.
