As far as the brake lights are concerned... they are reset only by replacing the bad sensor. The sensor is nothing more than a wire running through a plastic peice that closes a circuit. As long as the circuit is shorted, the ECU thinks everything is normal. If the pad thickness get's too thin, then it rubs through the sensor and opens the circuit. You should be able to short out the two contacts in the harness going to each sensor to make the dash warning go away. If that doesn't work, you have an opening somewhere else in the circuit that's not normal.

Two ways to do a quick check. Disconnect the sensor harness and get out your multimeter. With the key turned to ON check for voltage on the ECU-side terminals. Check the sensor-side terminals for continuity. If you have both voltage on one side and continuity on the other, then you'll have no error messages OR your ECU is fried.
