You are going to have to run 255/40 in 20 to meet the minimum OEM load rating at teh OEM specified 26" unloaded diameter (actually the 20" tire will be 26.1"). Also, all tiresin this size range seem to be load rated 92, less than the OEM recommended 94.

If you want to actually improve your performance, moving to 19" or especially 18" will be better (less performance penalty due to additional rotational and unsprung mass) if you buy a good (not a poseur) wheel that is light and strong.

It helps board members if you post your car model in your profile.

You're not going to get much help here for those 20s - most of us don't like the way they affect ride quality - so few have personal experience with them and can't tell you about rubbing issues.

But here's an offset calculator:

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Offset is a function of width, so choose a width and see what the required offset would be.

I agree, no love for 20's. Go to the vip site.Is it me or are a lot of these Q's we have been seeing from California? Are there more out west? Or are all the rich people from the mid ninetiesall out west trading in for MB?

FGY33 are big in the VIP scene as they are cheap to fubar with Very Impaired Performance, and there are many in CA.

Well, you might not get much love from the other older guys here, but you can get some from me since I have 20's on my car. I have 255/35/20 Nexen N3000 tires with load rating of 97Y (which exceeds the OEM standards). Whenever I need to get my next set of tires, I'm going with 245/35/20 though.

Don't let the tire's price fool you. They are great tires and the best bang for the buck!! Oh, and please don't go look at those VIP cars....I truly hate them. Never understood the reason to have a "bar" in the dash.

If you are going to impair the ride quality and performance with 20" wheels, I say go all the way and get 22 or even 24" wheels and some knobby off road looking tires, a lift kit, and compete with the jeeps and other off roader looks

I run the FX45 20" with Nitto 555 245/35/20. Load rating on the tires are 95W so there shouldn't be any issue. They are slightly smaller than the original tires so I might switch to a 255/35/20 when I wear these out.

The 20" FX rims look really good on the Y33, in my opinion.

The pictured car is running a 245/35 - and the PO said there is no rubbing with a 20x8, +40 on lowering springs.

I would feel more comfortable with something closer to a +30.

Looks a little rubber bands on caster wheels to me. Great if you are into the shopping cart ride, performance, looks.

I cant imagine that you could drive with that wheel/tire setup even 1000 miles on Maryland roads without either bending a rim or damaging or blowing out a tire- maybe if you only drove during the daylight and did the trick all the big wheels/xtra low profile tire guys do, which is zigzag down the road avoiding potholes, ruts, manhole covers etc......drive after dark and all bets are off, pray the spare tire has air,its not raining, and you only lost a single tire on the road hazard!

But no performance. 17" or 18" will have much more comfort. But if you are a slave to teenage parking lot fashion, 19" is a better compromise than 20".

Thanks for the input, Nightrider, NY94J30 and marksport!

I like the look of the 20s on the y33 - just not for me.
