I don't normally do burnouts and go back to see the damage, but I decided to do one outside of my shop yesterday just for the hell of it. Revved it up, and dumped the clutch on a nice paved surface and left 2 good length tire marks. I'm pretty sure I have the open differential in my car as its not labled VLSD and if I have the rear jacked up and turn one wheel, the other one doesn't move.

I was under the impression that only vehicles with an LSD would do 2 wheel burnouts so I decided to try again today. Revved it up, dumped the clutch and got on the brake and again left 2 trails of rubber. 4 times its done this so I can't assume its a fluke, but I'm wondering if I'm misunderstanding how a LSD works. Can anyone explain?

you can still do 2 lines with open diff

try to do dognuts and you will see only 1 tire mark

yup... open diffs are very capable of doing 2 wheel burnouts... what your probably doing is reving high and dumping the clutch with out power braking.. if you power braked you'll stop one of your wheels and see only one tire mark

LOL just playin.

Doing a power braking burnout is easy, push the clutch in and rev it up, then dump the clutch and quickly step on the brake with ur clutch foot, this keeps the car from moving and let the rear tires spin, usuall.

contrary to popular belief, its possible to do 2 wheel donuts with an open diff. if you dont believe me, come to my local highschool and check out the marks. sometimes you just get lucky :]

or, you could heel/toe the gas brake pedals and dump the clutch.

makes a much nicer looking burnout, without the jumping forward and what not.

yes that too but to try that on stock clutch will burn you up rather quickly... not to mention putting a strain on your drivetrain from braking from a standstill and forcing your tires to move from a standstill

Yeah, mine did it dual tire mark on an open diff too, but one tire is WAY more distinctive than the other. Besides that, trying to launch the car with a non-lsd is kinda a pain with the tire having to play catch up of you load up to much... It can be done well, but I'm in the process of chaning my diff to a vlsd. Need some output shafts/flanges if anyone out there has some!

yeah, maybe if you do 80 burnouts a day. anything like that is putting a strain on your drivetrain. who cares. s13's are a dime a dozen.
