is it true that it makes it more difficult to turn because the inside wheel wants to hop? and that its more unsafe in teh rain? its what i heard over at the drifting.com forums, but i though it would make your car more predictable in all driving conditions? cuz i go an open diff and whenever i step on it a tad too much my inner wheel spins and cuases me to spin out. lsd will cure this right?? thanks!!

Logically, it will make wheel spin more predictable, since you won't have one wheel spinning faster than the other. That'll keep the rear from getting squirrley when the wheels spin.

If you're going into a turn, hit the gas, the rear end will spin easier if the wheels lose traction. You will be able to keep better control through the slide because you'll be able to control both wheels equally.

I hope that make sense.

The 2-way is not ideal for driving. If the car's gunna be on the street regularly and you don't like having to buy tires every couple months, get the 1.5-way or a VLSD if you're not putting down alot of power.

Its not quite as bad as that, a 2 way wont produce wheel hop at all.

Actually most of teh time you wont be able to tell it from a 1 way or 1.5 way except under extreme deceleration. In a straight line and you dont have ABS it will actually be helpful, in a curve it might not.

For this reason many folks prefer a 1.5 way for street use.But a skilled driver wont be bothered by a 2 way.

When I got my Nismo cltch LSD it was dlivered as a 2 way but they can all be installed as 1.5 ways.

Kaaz, Nismo, Cusco, all make 2 ways that can be installed as a 1.5 way.

Just tell your installer thats what u want.

first off...

stop reading threads at drifting.com

second.. 2-way will be harsher as daily drive..

as far as in the rain... you WILL have to be carefull... your back end can slide out depending on your turn and what not...

most people who actually get 2-way know how to handle it so there would be no problem..

Is a 1.5 still ideal for mostly drag/street use if putting down decent numbers? (like 350hp+). Or would a 2-way be better for a drag/street use?

ive had both [not in a nissan though], and the major difference is turns.

in the rain, if your going kinda fast, and let off the gas mid turn at high rpm [high engine braking], the rear wants to break loose.

thats the difference. a 1.5 way under deceleration with engine braking, will only slightly lock the wheels together.

a 2 way under the same conditions wants to lock the wheels together at a rate equivalent to acceleration.

for the street, a 1.5 way is best, but a 2 way isnt THAT bad, just as long as you dont engine brake around turns with reduced traction.

a 1 way only locks the wheels on accel.

I loved my Nismo 1.5 way it rocks the guy who bought my old S13 w/ SR20DET loves it too.

The 2 way, wont feel any different on the drag strip.

The advatange of a 2 way over a 1.5 way is it makes drifts easier to control/make happen.

Like I said earlier the 2 way LSD's can be installed as 1.5 ways.

1 way = prevents excess wheel turn on acceleration only (ie locks)2 way = prevents excessive wheels slip on both accel and decel.1.5 way, prevents on accel ( locks on slip) and somewhat on decel.

Several of our sponsors carry 2 way/1.5 way LSD's for very competive prices. Both underground motorsports and optionimports have the Nismo clutch type mechanical LSD's for under $800 shipped.

if you get a 2 way you will need to know what you are doing moreso than with the idiot proof 1.5 way. also with 2 way your setup is more important. dont get carried away with that preload on a 2 way diff. 1.5 way you can set up fairly stiff without too much trouble.

I dont think there is a ned to learn form a VLSD.VLSD's are so gentle there is little elarning to be had from them.

A good clutch type 1.5 is hard to beat in most situations.

i completely agree with that. 1.5 way is my choice LSD.

upgrading to a sticky tire from a crappy tire will make MUCH more of a difference in grip and handling than an LSD will.

going overboard with the lsd might just give the car a bad attitude in certain situations.

good tires will make 2-3 times the difference that the lsd will. the lsd will just stabilize the car on acceleration, so that your putting the power down to both wheels instead of one, so the car is stable and easier to control.
