I was wanting to put 2 shallow mount pioneer free air 8" subs in the rear deck, but after closer look it wont be very feasible so anybody know how a free air 10" sub would fit/sound? planning on going with a panasonic HU with a digital amp 70x4 peak/31x4 rms and adding a sub. also wnat to use kenwood speakers. any advice for changing this stuff out? any better choice for sub. i dont want a box in the trunk

got childrens...

I don't really recommend free air. I did that in my Maxima putting the sub behind the armrest and was disappointed compared to a sealed setup.

If you want one in the deck, I'd recommend the Elemental Design Audio slim 10" subwoofer mounted in the deck and just basically put a small box on the other side of the deck to seal it. What's nice about that one is not only is it slim, but unlike most others, it doesn't require a lot of air space which is the biggest problem with most slim subwoofers.

Their stuff is very affordable and very high quality with excellent sound. I had a couple of their 7 inch woofers that played better lows than an 18" competition woofer I had. On top of that... they give you a factory, 5 year warranty on their stuff. Excellent customer service too.

happen to have a link for that sub. i might end up having to just get a slim sub and put it in a box.....will the 10 work with the precut hole for the bose sub bracket or will i need to cut out some more to get better sound.

is there any need for putting a couple of 6.5s in the deck? anybody done that and does it make a big difference?

In general I have never been impressed with any freeair setup as they are all pretty sloppy sounding. If you do not mind losing some trunk space then even a 8" sub will sound much better than a freeair 10. I would also avoid putting speakers on the rear deck as it will take lots of cutting and modification while giving you little in return.
