I was curious to know if it's ok to use 2 sets of tires instead of getting a full set of 4 of the same. i'm trying to go the used route and found a set of bridgestone potenzas 235/25/19* and a set of yokohama AVS 235/35/19, both have about 80% tread.

should i avoid this and just get a new set of tires or get a set of 4 of the same used? also if i do get 2 sets, is this something i should mention when i get my car serviced, so that when they rotate the tires they don't mix them all up? thanks in advance for any help

*Edit: both sets are 235/35/19, up top is just a typo.

Whoa...do not do that unless you are getting them for $5 a piece.

They have two different ratios and the same width meaning one has a larger side wall (meaning the tire is going to be taller on the same rim).

This would be like you standing with 1 foot on a book, awkword, but posible...now, imagine walking with that book attached to your shoe, it would make you want to walk in a circle. To prevent this, you would just steer into the book/shoe...but tires are grippy fellows, and don't want to give, thus causing major wear to your tires.

You could POSSIBLY fix this with an allignment that puts your car out of allignment (does that make sense?) but allignments are like $70 a pop and you would need one every 10k or so I would say.

I would suggest against this too. If you're looking for budget tires, brand new, check out Falken FK-452's. I'm looking into them as well. See if you can get hookup on those already fair priced tires, it'll be much better than your offsize mix.

if you go 225/40/19 you can get pretty darn close to overall factory tire size...that or 255/35/19, and they'd both give u around the same sidewall thickness

good luck fellow vancouverite haha

Tires are the only thing on your car that actually touch the ground...why do people always skimp out on them?

You can use two different types of tires, provided they are the same size as one another...in your case, this is not a good idea. Different size tires will affect your ABS, your TCS, and VDC if you have it, not to mention screw with the aerodynamics of the car because of the wheel height.

You should look into getting 4 tires of the same tread type and same size...mixing tire types is not the best, but you can get away with it by keeping the same tires on the same axle.

As all already mentioned, you'll be into a mess of weirdness by mixing tire sizes. If your going the used route and want to save some cashola just buy a set with all 4. Don't mix and match.

doh! go figure i make a typo in the tire sizes. they're both 235/35/19!

so it sounds like keeping the tires on the same axle is not a problem since both sets are the same size. i agree though that i should probably get a set of 4 instead of half an half, but things are just a little cost prohibitive right now so it's either that or nothing. Although i have also spotted a decent set of 245/45/19 tires, however i kind of abandoned that idea since they're too big, and i'm worried about issues with rubbing since i plan to have the car lowered this summer.

i'm buying a set of used rims, which have tires at 50% tread left, and for some reason 1 of the tires is brand new. I don't think it's a good idea to run on three 50% worn tires and 1 new, so i wanted to get new tires.

i'm still running on my stock 16's. i can get a brand new set of 215/35/19 for $575 but i think those are too skinny, i don't want to have stretched tires. btw the rims are 19x8 konig unknowns.
