Hi all:

Taking delivery this week on G37 Journey(premium, sport),black with stone interior, and have 2 questions....

1) what are the ramifications of using regular gas in the vehicle vs premium?....will i do the engine damage?...will I have reduced mileage using reg, thus offsetting the cost savings?will I have reduced performance using reg?

2) since the car is black, I want to protect the finish by waxing once every 6 weeks or so. However, I do not have the time nor inclination for multistep enthusiast detailing (if you know what I mean)...Thus, is there a specific one step wax (brand and product) that you would recommend considering my desire for simplicity?I've always favored Maguiers(sp?) but if you have something better you can recommend, please.....

Thanks for the help.....

1. Use premium gas.

2. Get a clear bra for the front.

Welcome aboard and congrats on your purchase!

The whole gas grade debate has been beaten to death here.. a quick search will net you ALL your answers... cliff notes are:

If you are leasing... do you care about the next owner?? If not.. you can lose performance power and possibly damage the engine by using lower grade gas. Pinging may occur and if something becomes damaged and Infiniti can prove your at fault for not using the recommended grade gas as stated in the manual... you may eat the bill yourself. You just got a hot car... will a few extra bucks in filling her up really break the bank?? I doubt it!! I say go with premium

As for 1 step decent wax.. you can try Turtle Wax Ice liquid polish. Worked pretty good when I usede it.

As for a clear bra... if you are planning on keeping the car... It is a VERY wise investment Infiniti's paint is not exactly known for it's durability... I would invest in one and have it proffesionally installed as apparently they are a real PITA to do yourself.

Hope that helps.. be sure to post a few pics for us!!

You are very welcome!

The gas question has been beaten to death and the answer was to use premium gas. Why save $4 bucks a tank to use gas that can lead to issues? It just isn't worth it.

Get a clear bra for the front to protect it.

Sorry for being vague the first time.....oh yeah, post count +1! Just kidding.....

sorry about the sarcasm....

as for the clear bra, is it cheasy looking, or as the name may imply, transparent?also, doesnt the paint oxidize at a different rate under the bra, so that if you ever decide to remove it do you notice that it was there?...and finally, do you have any pics or links of this clear bra on a vehicle, particularly the G?

I will be buying the car vs leasing, so I guess I'll use premium....on 20 gallons, it's about a $6 difference.....no big deal....

1). If you can afford to purchase or lease a high end luxury car you should be able to afford the premium gas!

2). If incline with the waxing, shouldn't buy black or just have a car detailer do it!

If you are seeking to use a one step product - I would recommend a cleaner wax and not just a polish. A "cleaner wax" will help take out the fine scratches as well as provide the shine. Meguirs as well as other brands make cleaner waxes.

not a question of affording..did I write that?????..I dont like wasting $ if I dont have to....there is a big difference over a 15000 mile year between regular and premium....My question was a valid one......there is quite a bit of debate whether or not premium is actually worth it with today's engine technology.....I wanted anecdotal evidence from the experts on this board

As for protecting the finish of my car, my post was simply that I dont want to go overboard (claybar, 4 step BS etc)....I wanted advice on a recommended brand of high quality wax that will protect and look great.....I dont need some hack detailing my car every month....

I was on the 1addicts website before I decided to come here when I decided to go with the new G....alot of hostile answers to legitimate questions here that I didnt get over there.....

'if incline with the waxing'....WTF does that mean jerkoff???

Congrats!

1) I have never used less than Premium Unleaded since I tried Regular Unleaded in my '04 FX35 and the engine began to knock. To me, that is affecting more than just performance.

2) I use Meguiar's Gold Class on both my G37 and my (black) M35. The M35 looks fantastic. From my experience, Zaino is the absolute best for black cars but it is multi-step and I don't have the time for it either. Re: the clear bra, I had an X-Pel clear bra on my '03 SC430. It did protect the car, but the line showed and the film was faintly visible. I would imagine it would be even more evident on a black car, but I could be wrong.

Hope that helps. I now have over 2,000 miles on my G37, and I love it more every day!

Whoa!! Down Jeff... your going to find internet sarcasm or a as you put it "jerk offs" on EVERY chat forum... it comes with the territory.

Take it with a grain of salt and pay no attention to it. I didn't sense any other hostility though as you had mentioned??? When people get "snappy" like that ... generally it's because a question has been asked that could easily have been covered by doing a quick search.

I hope I managed to answer your questions nonetheless..

I disagree moderator......the poster was a jerkoff...his answer was disrespectful and unnecessary....I think you should be grateful that you have a new poster asking earnest, articulate(rare on this board) questions.that's my story and I'm sticking to it....and no, moderator, the vast majority of new posters on boards I've been on aren't met with 'internet sarcasm'.....

How many different topics are there to ask questions about w/o the occasional repeat of info...?...sure, I could do a search, but my questions were opinion based, and maybe there were some newer ones....perhaps my expectations are too high and should post elsewhere.....

Thanks to all who took the time to answer with good info...I appreciate it....

You don't want to use a "cleaner" wax on a new car!

Well...I'm certainly not going to get into a bantering match here... but that comment you just made seems pretty disrespectful to the other members here if you want to get technical about it.

Sorry... I guess I didn't read your post correctly that you were looking for opinions and not actual fact.

Anyways, I just wanted to clear that up... NICO has very helpful, insightful members, all of whom are still learning about their new G37. We try to keep the "bad" ones away, but we have no control over what people are going to sometimes say. Some slip by the radar, which I hope you would understand and take into consideration considering we are the largest Infiniti/Nissan site on the web with roughly 70,000 members...

Anyways, I hope you stay and become a regular here at the NICO family! We are ALWAYS open to ideas and suggestion to help make this site even more enjoyable for all members!

Cheers,
