i have an s14 SR and i think my input shaft bearing or input shaft is going bad

The car doesn't feel any sluggish but has that whining(supercharger like) noise coming from the transmission.

ive consulted many people about this and most say its a bad input shaft/bearingif that's the case how much longer do you think i have on the transmission if its the bearing since the the car doesn't feel any the less sluggish.the trans has about 70k on it.

my other question is about your SR and KA bell housing DIY threadi hve the s14 SR and transa friend of mine has a S14 KA trans.bell housings should bolt up fine without any problems correct?

there was a post in that thread that said i needed to grind somewhere in the bell housing but the poster came off as confusing.

Hijacker your help( or anyones) would be much and greatly appreciated

Either way, your trans has to come out for repair. It will be just as easy to replace the input bearing because the bell housing has to come off anyway.

I have the same problem. I highly dought a fluid change could repair a bad bearing.

Really? Do you have to buy a rebuild kit or can you buy just the input bearing?

You should be able to buy just the input bearing.

My trans has the same whine, I figured it was the input bearing too... Though given the miles and abuse it's taken (170k+ over 20 years) I've wondered if the gears are worn as well...

One of these days I'm going to rebuild the while unit, but only if I can get a good deal on a short extension FS5W71C. lol

same issue here. the whine has been there since i got the car, and i don't know if it's gotten louder or not since. i never want to take that transmission off again.. my pelvis is still recovering.

I have drove mine like this for about 2 months. I hope it won't mess anything ells up if I drive it like this for a few more months.

Worst case, it will ruin the input shaft.

it's been my experience with Nissan transmissions that the barons than always go bad first are on the counterbalance shaft and usually are the ones in the sandwich plate. If you should go in the transmission at replace all the main bearings

That's the spirit! My SR's transmission makes the same whining sound.
