Hey Steve. 2 questions for you.

My friend has G37 Coupe. When he starts it cold, he gets a vibrating noise in the exhaust. I have verified that is coming from the rear muffler.

Now for the question. LOL Is this common/ is there a tech bullitin for it?

Now for #2. My rearview mirror make a chirping noise when it vibrates. Is there an easy fix for this or is it a mirror replacement type fix? (it is the auto dimming w/ homelink)

I've got a question too....what do you drive Steve?

I have seen posts on G37 exhaust vibration...I'm sure someone will post up the TSB if there is one.

For you're homelink mirror vibrating, you need to open it up and fill it with silicon to stop the vibration. The only fix for those from Infiniti is if your buttons are faded/smudged.

Thanks Joe. Have you done this? Is there a write up for it?

I don't care if he drives a Yugo. Steve is badass, and answers a lot of questions.

Yea for Steve!!!

If I'm wrong, let me know, but it's possible the vibrations are coming from the exhaust tip? I think I noticed that noise when I had the stock setup at the end of last winter?!? Did some recording of the exhaust so I could hear it, but as it turned out, the exhaust started rattling hoarsly with vibration.

You can actually feel the vibration in the muffler. Like one of the baffels broke a weld or was not properly welded to begin with. Once the car warms up it stops.

I have a Greddy EVO2. I still have the exact same issue you speak of. It only rattles for about 5-10 seconds than stops. I have checked many times, nothing is loose, and it's not making contact on anything. I gave up. Plus it's only 5-10 seconds a day, and not that harsh or loud.

I agree w/ you. But his car is only 5k miles old. And it would annoy the $hit out of me. Esp. for the price of a new G37 S.

Holy crap I missed this thread for five days. Damn sorry.

Ok first things first, thank you guys I feel like I kill threads here, I always search my recent topics and active topics and by the time I am done its near midnight and I rarely get a chance to go through more of the threads. I am really glad I found a group of people that share in my love for the product I hope to be around for a good while. You guys are the best the topics here are great and I appreciate your support.

Now for answers. Your friends 37 needs a rear muffler. There is no bulletin for it but it is not uncommon. There is an updated factory muffler part number. Next time I get one I will cut it open and show you guys where the problem is. The tips on the 37 and most of the Gs have integrated tips that are not removable.

As for your mirror, I cannot find the info in the esm and I don't know if there is a bulleten for it, even if their was I cannot post that. If you hold the mirror and the annoying little rattle goes away then it's the mirror. So there is an easy fix for this. Remove the mirror and use a very small screwdriver and pry on the top (cannot see it if you scratch it) to separate the two halves. I use a butyl gum or something like stick petroleum based silicone. to insulate the two pieces. Then you can re install it and you should be straight.

Ok now for a confession. Please don't hold this against me I knew this day would come.

I do not have a car... seriously not even a Hugo. My wife has an 03 Acura RSX (she had it since new, when I was not with Infiniti). I live about a mile from my shop, and usually just walk. It's decent exercise. So the reason I don't have a car anymore is we are trying to buy a house sometime in the near future and by not having one it saves a ton of money plus I would love to have an Infiniti and really don't even want to own anything else as I feel they are all inferior I could have something cheap and old but driving beautiful cars all day has seriously spoiled me. I had a Nissan Hardbody before that it had ~250K on it and I was short on cash at the time so to Craigslist it went, at least I made decent profit off it. I will get something soon I am just in no real rush I would rather wait to get what I really want. Oh well such is life.

I really never thought that I would be sans car though. I always said once I got my license I would not give up a car willingly (a license suspension is another story, stupid speeding when I had only had it for 6 months) but it's really not that bad now. It sucks sometimes but my NICO addiction makes up for it at least I get to talk about them.

My wife would not let me spend money on toys now anyway. Practicality is one of the good things I like about marrying an accountant.

Right on. You rock Steve. Thanks for the info on both. I will let my friend know about the muffler. Just sucks, we don't have an Infiniti dealer near us. The closest one is in Richmond. Over 2 hrs away.

And don't think of yourself as a thread killer. You just answer the questions to the problem. And we all Thank You!

It sucks that you are so far out there. I would call ahead and make sure they have the parts in stock before going. I know we usually stock at least one. Call them on the day of your appointment too just to be 100% sure.

I'm totally the thread killer I have like 90 or so watched topics and as I scroll through them I see so many are dead at what I say. Although I learned today just how many people read what I write. Weird why are they so quiet.

Got me why they are so quite. I'm glad you do post on here and answer questions.

I used to be on VWVORTEC. And would try and help out there. But too many A$$HOLES would try to argue w/ or flame you on your help. Like they knew more then the Master Tech who was trying to help them. So I said F'em and let them mess up their cars and then they have to take it to the dealer!

Everyone here seems truely greatful to have a tech that takes the time to answer the questions. And do it w/o debate.

People get quiet when the answer is clear and concise. Once the answer has been posted, and it is the correct answer, usually the thread dies.

Don't look at it as killing the thread. Look at threads that die, as a job well done.

Its kind of erie to be the last poster on every thread you contribute too, that happens to me all the time!

That was bothering me for a while but worse than that is the shear number of people that ghost read all of these thread. WTF why not participate? I just noticed that today and I find it interesting. I joined and replied to the first thing I read here. I guess I just cant keep quiet.

I know what you mean although I know nothing of VWs and I can only imagine the drivers are "pros" are d!ck as most Euro wannabees are. I am a non participating member of every major forum for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles but NICO is the only place I feel I can actually help people. The FX and G35driver are more about mods and trashing dealers, because they do in fact all know more than someone who has spent years doing nothing but fixing their cars. Oh well I love it here and I have no plans of going back to any of the other ones. The people here are great too and I have learned a lot from the experiences of the actual drivers here.

Thanks for the advice on the mirror. I didn't know that it was "popped" together. I assumed it was glued.

It has been opened, siliconed on both sides, and is rattle free.

Thanks for the info Steve!

Ok that took all of 10 min to do. No for the drive home to see if the chirping is gone.
