1. Sometimes during the summer, my AC will smell mildewy. However, this past week--both the heater and the AC have a strange, VERY STALE, almost stinky air smell that lasts for about 10 minutes of driving. The smell happens with the AC, Heater, and Vent settings. Being that it is winter (although its not super cold here in Central California 40degrees-high 60s) and the smell just appeared last week seemingly out of nowhere---any ideas what could cause this? How should I fix it?

2. How do I know when my break pads need replaced. Sometimes they squeak a bit when I first start driving. Then the sound goes a way. I have never replaced the pads and the car now has 37000 miles on it.

Thank you for your time,

OP

The brake pad squeal might have to do with a recall. If you haven't had the recall done yet I think it's time to check it out with a dealership. It comes with new rotors and pads for the rear I think and new rotors for the front. I'm sure somebody else can confirm this or correct this.

Is there a way to verify the recall? I took it in about six months ago and they replaced the keys and air filter for a recall but they have not notified me about anything else. Digging around on line, I cannot find anything regarding a recall on the 2007 and brake pads.

This is a related thread about the brakes.

I know I took my car in for the squeal that seems to happen when you first drive it in the morning, and they replaced a bunch of stuff for free.

I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the rotors and pads for like 2 times but the squeal is still here....

+1 I've come to realize the factory rotors and brake pads are crap. mine went to crap at 7k they completely replaced my rotors and pads then 7k later exact same problem.

I'm saving up for some after market.
