hey, well heres the problems:

first of all, there a new funny sound coming from under my hood. when i start my car (90 240sx fb) after its sat for at least a few hours there's this sharp "ERR ERRRC ERRRRCH" then everything is normal. the car runs fine otherwise. my oil is topped up. its getting close to oil change time, could it be that i need an oil change? the only other thing is that its starting to get quite cold throught the days and especially nights where i live, could this have an impact?

second, i think i need a new clutch, but seeing as i'm no expert could ya help me out. the simptoms are that my 5th gear will slip under moderate acceleration, 4th under hard acceleration, and 3rd under slightly harder acceleration. first and second gear still grip strong though. are these signs of a worn clutch? if so i'm upgrading to a centerforce stage 2 dual friction

i think your diagnosis is correct by going by your description of the problem. and the "ERR ERRRC ERRRRCH" , describe more, is it like belt noise or what? what does it sound like

hi, sorry for the late reply, my comp was out for a bit. anyways:

thanx for the clutch advice.

as for my"erch" sound, i don't believe it is coming from my belts, i've only heard it while sitting in the driver seat and starting my car, but it does not sound like its coming form the belts, more closer to the engine, if not, the engine itself. i think its coming from more down below however. on a side note, i removed the whole aiv unit about a month and a half ago. i'm not sure if that would cause anything? I also recently put a straight 2 1/2" s/s pipe from my stock downpipe back to stock muffler (better muffler coming later).any ideas?

It could also be your throw-out bearing (clutch), that makes a sort or erch sound when it's going bad.

well that would make sense as well, seeing as how my clutch is needing replacing as it is. could it all be art of the same thing, my slipping clutch, and this sound?
