The grill on the left [microphone] is a great place [after gutting inside] to mount a small chrome toggle switch or two........nice round hole behind grill.

The plenum job took me about 1 week(7 days) at about 5 hours a day. I cleaned everything meticulously and took my time. Not a mechanic by any means:)but have messed up enough things in life to learn a little. Just sold a 928 porsche 1986. It kind of reminds me of this q45. They are both expensive new, both have v8 engines, both are complicated and both can become a second mortgage if it werent for helpful places like this site! Thanks again for the help:)

Porshapower - what was your experience with the 928? I've long admired this car though I've read through many a post on Rennlist and they sound like they need a lot of attention. My cousin-in-law has an 89 and I try and drive it every time he visits.

My guess is, once a Q45 is "up to snuff", you won't be working on the thing like you would a 928...My Porsches have mysterious problems that once you think you have the fixed for any period of time, something else crops up..."It's allways sompthin'"

German Engernieering? To me that is a Myth...

Farfignugen, sounds about right.

Heck, don't get me wrong, I've been involved with Porsches for 30yrs., and I love the dang cars, that 4cyl. 968 is a quick car once over 50mph, and 911's are a car like none other, but if I had to take a trip, I'd take the Maxima (250K) or the Q without hesitation...Porsches are "fun" cars...

I'm thinking of dumping both and gettin a decent 356... A real Porsche... :-)

Just my opinion though...

The 928 was a very nice car. What attracted me to it is the sound. They are more of a GT car than a true sports car up until the 928 gts came out(that was a monster) They had some early euro cars with 300 hp that were fast as well. If you were to buy one I recommend an 84 or 85 if you are not too conserned with speed but they were the best built. The 86 began the "new motor" with the older rear end and nose. The 87 began the s4 which was beautiful but had lots of issues especially with the mercedes built automatic transmission. If you want a good bang for the buck buy a 86 or newer 944. They are quick, dependable and great on gas! The turbo 944 is incredible but require much more work. And if your into the non water cooled porsches then I recommend a 83 or newer 911 with the 3.2 and also the 78 and 79 cars were nice but must have the upgraded tensioners. The 356 is FUN! The q45 reminds me of a corvette 4 door...I really think that gm must of had some influence in the motor. It sounds like an 87 corvette I had.. I am looking forward to getting this car up to snuff. The only thing that is boggling my mind right now is this worn brake pad message...cant get it to go away....
