Haha sounds good, I put together a list of stuff I want to get for the swap and my total came out to 13k with no longblock and no internal upgrades haha, but I figure since I don't need an ecu or wiring harness I can problem get a shortblock and tranny for pretty cheap. Getting a pre-made harness and power fc so no need for the previously stated. How do you pm people? I'm still getting into this whole forum stuff and I'd rather not blow up your thread haha.

For PMs (I think you have to activate it in your personal options first), you click on the username you want to message, and when it brings you to their profile page, there is a link to private message them.

Not sure where you are located, but make sure there is a competent PowerFC tuner local to you before getting one. Unless you are planning to tune yourself, I'd see what other people in your area tune with, so you get the best tune possible. If you live out in the middle of nowhere, a JWT or Enthalpy tune might be your best bet, lol. This is of course assuming you don't want to tune it yourself :)

There is a shop about an hour from me called Drift Speed, they sell and dyno tune power fc's and I've browsed through silvia, nico, etc. and people recommend them so fairly confident they will be good. Question, how do I actually drive my car there to get it tuned haha? Do I get a base map that will just get me there in a decent manner or trailer it?

You are going to need to trailer it (what I'll be doing this weekend, lol) if it's a MAP setup. If it's still a MAF with a stock MAF, the PFC comes with a factory tune, so you could technically drive it with the stock injectors and not go into boost, but I wouldn't recommend it. To be safe, just trailer it. It's on $60 to rent a trailer if you don't have one.

The trailer is reserved, the truck is spoken for, and the car will be ready to be brought to Portland for it's break in tune this Saturday! So stoked (and nervous, lol)!!! Big thanks to my buddy's Dad for spending his time helping me tow the car up north!!!

Yeah I'd rather not grenade my motor trying to get it there haha. How long does it usually take for them to dial it in on a dyno? Good luck with the tune!

Depending on how clean the swap is and what kind of issues there are. Could be anywhere from 1/2 day to a few days. In an ideal situation, 1 hour of dyno time you can get alot accomplished but that is usually never the case.

Sounds good. You know how people have the "trumpets" on their turbo, like a flared end on it, can you use one of those if you're running on a map (I.e. using power FC)?

You can at the risk of sucking crap into the turbo and destroying it.

Oh I thought they had some kind of mesh or filter on the inside. The guys that are installing/tuning my power FC told me I need a bung for an intake air temp sensor, is this true? And where am I supposed to put it?

If it's a map sensor PFC, then yes, you need an air intake temp sensor. I put mine about 12" from my throttle body. You want to get an accurate reading of the air intake temp going into your motor. Even with mesh, you can still suck in small rocks and dust. An air filter is what you need, lol.

Oh okay. I was thinking it had to be in the intake going into the turbo but I'm glad I can put it on the cold pipe. Did you ever make any passes with the TS 3071 on 15 psi? I'm thinking about running 15 psi and just going with whatever numbers I get.

I never did. I only ran the 19psi (spiked to 20). However, this was all on a crap tune, so my old numbers really don't mean anything. I'd expect a large margin better with a good tune.

Hoping I'll be able to get a pretty bad a** tune with the power fc. Just have to pay the price for dyno time :/

Lets have a guessing game as to peak numbers. 445 on race fuel? 25-26 psi? 370tq. Pump fuel 20 psi 420 and 350. Full boost 3500 rpm

Lol, for reference: Same setup but with stock motor top to bottom it had 342whp and 335wtq at the wheels on 19-20psi with a crappy tune on pump gas. My goal with more boost and pump gas is about 450whp and 390wtq, but we will see...

It's still at the shop, they were working on the wiring harness today. Their dyno broke a couple weeks ago, so they got really behind. I'll have more updates when I get it back :)

Checked the compression today (just over 122 miles on the engine). Came out to 180, 180, 175, & 185 from cylinder 1 to 4. Not too bad. It's higher than factory (157psi) due to the 9:1 pistons over the factory 8.5:1. Next I'll be double checking the solid lifter lash.

Update: checked the solid lifter lash, and I have two that are grossly out of spec. Car is benched until I can get it fixed.

It happens. Solid lifters are a pain in the butt if you ask me. Sometimes, I wish I had just stuck with hydros and capped my Revs to 7.5k, lol.
