Well I picked up a 96 G20 today. I sold my G35 (was tired of payments, and I'm trying to buy a house), and actually had a few bucks left over after paying the loan off. So in a way, this car was free! Ha ha. It's a 5spd manual with A/C, Cruise, sunroof, etc. Gross interior color, but that can be changed out. Bought it from the original owners, which was kind of cool. It was the cleanest cheap P10 in the area in the last few weeks, so I grabbed it. I needed a decent DD to replace the G35. I know it's a "downgrade", but I'll make it nicer... I can't leave anything alone! Ha!

Here are some pictures of how it is today... Going to work on cleaning it up tomorrow.

The gross interior... Ha ha.

100% Stock SR... Runs nice and smooth!

Here you can see the color pretty well. I actually like it quite a bit!

Immediate plans are to just clean it up as best as I can. I'd like to start collecting black interior parts to swap it all over. I'd like to also get the Primera exterior parts, because as usual, they look better IMO. Might lower it a little, but nothing crazy. New wheels for sure though, the OE ones are lame. Also thinking of getting an SR20VE and LSD trans for it, just to make it a little more fun.

Picked this up this last Friday :) Underneath the valve cover looked great and it had even compression across all four cylinders.

Sorry for the low quality cell phone pic, lol

I also removed the "Bra" from the hood and did a little rubbing compound/polish/wax to get rid of the mark left behind. I still need to do the rest of the car though!

Today! lol

Wheels look way better IMO! Nothing crazy, but they definitely update the car.

Got the SR20VE up on the engine stand, where it will stay for a bit while I clean it up and replace some parts, etc...
Image

And I bought a B13 Sentra SE-R LSD transmission from a friend, which should make the car more fun to drive! Now I just need a clutch! Ha ha

I am on G20.net, lol. Same username. It is the metallic green that almost looks black, I absolutely love the color! I do have the bra, but it's not in the greatest shape. I'll have some updates by the end of the weekend (working on stuff atm).

Well, I found a P10 with a black interior at the local yard a couple weekends ago. I pulled the front seats, the carpet, rear speaker cover, and some various plastic trim pieces. Decided I had enough for that day, and decided to come back the next day to get the rear seats, dash, headliner, etc. Well, got there the next day and they decided to crush the car... I was pretty bummed!!!

Anyways, I decided to swap out what I did get anyways. Here are some pictures:

The interior as I bought the car:

After pulling a few things.... (gross!)

"New" (used) carpet installed:

And the new seats:

The driver seat is separating at the seams, but isn't torn. Going to take it to a shop to get it sewn back together (not my expertise, lol). I used some leather conditioner to soften it up again, and try to prevent it from getting any worse. They are still better than what was in there! The slow process to converting the interior to black has begun!

I know it kind of looks silly with the mis-matched color, but I put it on anyways, ha ha. Got a Primera (Gen2) front grill installed:

I also got a set of eGT clear tail lights to put on (maybe tomorrow).

So I cleaned up the garage this weekend to prep for starting on the SR20VE Swap.

Here's the motor as of now:

Image

Image

Planning on taking it apart down to the bare block/head/oil pump. Clean the crap out of it, clean the other parts that were removed, and re-install with all new gaskets (engine gasket kit pictured above). Going to replace a bunch of hoses so something doesn't give out and it's a pain to get at with the engine in the car. After the motor is all put back together, I'll be doing the same treatment to the B13 SE-R trans I got, then mating the two together with the new clutch kit I ordered. Then it all goes into the car with a new radiator and other parts to help clean things up and make it run well. Hoping everything goes smoothly! I'm guessing I'll have it done before the end of November, but going to shoot for the beginning. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears! Working on a budget, but if it's important, I will try to do a little extra now to save in the long run.

Well, things moved a lot more slowly than I hoped, ha ha.

I did get my new Koyo R radiator in from shipping, it's a nice piece.
Image

This is what took forever, masking off surfaces and holes on the motor. I did this to keep either cleaning solution from getting inside the motor or from the wire brushes from scratching important mating surfaces (like the VVL block and oil block). I did do some cleaning after the masking off, but I haven't finished. I'll post the after pics when I get it all cleaned up!

Image

Image

I've also worked on cleaning as much hardware as I can, so the motor looks good when I put it back together. The hardware pictured below was after a cleaning; before they were covered in corrosion, caked on oil, and the like. I soaked them in a bucket of castrol super clean or purple power for 12 hours, then brushed them down a bit with a wire brush and cleaned them with a paper towel. Worked great for the most part. Some parts have too much corrosion on them, and will take my wire wheel on the bench grinder to be removed... which removes the nice plating as well. Trying to keep the plating, so they look nice, ha ha.

Well, it has been a little slow going. Haven't had a ton of time to work on it lately, but I did this weekend. I got the motor down as far as I wanted to go, cleaned it as best as my patience would allow, lol, and started to put stuff back on.

This is how far I took it:

Image

I checked the timing guides, tensionor, chain, the oil pump, and so on. Everything looked great, so I'm not going to be replacing them.

This is where I'm at as of now; still have a ways to go, lol.

I finally got my hands on a genuine P10 Nismo Grill! Super Stoked! lol. Just came in today. Not sure if the Nismo badge is original or not, but if it is, I'll have to find a new one for when I paint the grill to match the car.

I finally took some pictures of the new (to me) wheels. They are Enkei J10 15x6.5 +38 offset wheels with Yokohama tires (forgot the size, lol). I definitely need to lower the car! Sorry for the late night pictures, I did my best, ha ha.

So it's been awhile... but I finally have been working on the SR20VE swap. I was gone all summer long for work, which really sucked in terms of getting car projects done! Anyways, motor is almost ready to go in. Going to do wiring next before I put it in the engine bay. Using a doner valve cover at the moment, so it looks lame. The original valve cover is getting powder coated. Here's a couple pictures of the engine mated to the OBD-II P10 LSD trans I just got.

Nuff respect on the work done on the 'Original G'.

Thanks. Not sure yet, first is to see how bad the damage is. Saw last night that the knock sensor literally melted into a puddle of goo when it overheated... so it'll be interesting to see the damage, lol. It's just sitting on the engine stand at the moment.

That engine is looking good, but yeah, the wheels make the car look like a 4x4 haha.
Is there an engine under the hood at the moment? If not, it should drop a little when you drop it back in.
