Have any of you other guys had to replace both front cv axles since having your lift put on? I replaced the passenger side within 2 weeks of the lift... $200 and now the other side has come apart too.
I am almost ready to get shorter springs put back on.

Welcome to the lifted world there bro. Reality of the situation is this...your cv's are stock with high mileage on them and they were likely already cracked in the boots. Adding that little bit of angle to them just made the boots tear simple as that. If you get manual locking hubs the cv's wont spin unless the hub is locked eliminating the chance of ripping another boot. Where are you getting your cv's from for 200 bucks....thats a ripoff. You can get reman ones from orilleys for like 80 bucks with the core charge....and they have a lifetime warranty so if they break again just go get another.

Sounds high to me?

I too have manual hubs and have yet to replace my 160+k CV's.

Where can I get a set and how much are they? Can I put them on? I am fairly mechanically inclined.

I believe many people use Warn hubs. I don't know about installation or anything else, I've got a 2WD.

I too have a 2wd and do not know about intall, but I worked at a 4WD shop and warn is a very well known company and their locking hubs are a very popular product.

I changed my CV boots a while ago which involved taking out and replacing the shafts.

It's not terribly difficult to do, I just followed my chilton manual, and didn't run into any problems taking them off.

The problem I had was putting things back together.

It turns out that my method for popping the tierod end out of its seat wasn't the best...

I had back-offed the castle nut to where it was only held on by a couple of threads, then I hit the castle nut with a hammer to unseat the tie rod end

When I was putting everything back, my castle nuts wouldn't go back on because the last threads were squished.

I was able to correct the problem with an hour and a screw driver, scraping away..

Moral of the story, don't hit the castle nut directly with a metal hammer :bigthumb:

Watching Wheeler Dealers led me astray...

I do believe he was talking about installing the WARN hubs. Its a pretty simple job, but the hardest part is switching out the studs for longer ones. But it only took me about 25 minutes a side when I first installed them...now I can take them on and off in a matter of minutes with the right tools.

As far as the cv's go thats also a simple job to do. Again when i first changed a cv it took me a good hour to do...but now that I know all the socket sizes by heart it only takes me about 20 minutes with air tools. Here is a link to a thread I made awhile back
