I might be crazy but...........

I noticed that my speedometer is off by 2 kms. It's funny but I can be at 42 on my speedometer and my GPS reads 40. I also have a scan gage 2 and it also reads 40.

What's even funnier is that even at 100 kph it's the same: 2 over.

My big question is: if my odometer says 120 000 kms........ is it off??

If your scanguage is showing 40 than that is the actual speed your ecu is reading. Needle type speedometers are notoriously inaccurate due to the way they operate and how they actually work. I would say that if the scangauge is reporting an accurate speed (what your ecu is reading) than your mileage is probably accurate as that is not a conventional gauge but just a digital readout of what your ecu is seeing.

My 08 SL w/CVT is about 1MPH off according to my Garmin GPS and I believe it. If my Garmin says 70, my speedometer reads 71. I actually tested my odometer and that is off by about 2%. So if my odometer read that I drove 100 miles, I ACTUALLY went about 102 miles (tested this by resetting the trip odometer with mile post markers). This means there is really 2% MORE miles on my car than what it says. I don't mind really, but it throws my fuel economy calculations off a little.

My last 2 Toyota's were off as well with the odometer being 3-4% inaccurate on them so, IMO, the versa is more accurate with tracking miles/speed.

I totally don't feel suprise at all.....

I am not sure do you guys aware of those big trucks.... many of them have a counter at their rear wheel (speically on the wheel which power the truck to move)

The reason why they have such device even on a brand new truck is because of the odometer isn't as accurate as you think, and the one on the dash is pretty much for reference only.....

I've noticed that too on my GPS, but of course the GPS is a digital read out and I became concerned about it for at least 5 seconds then dismissed it because it really isn't worth worrying about......really now is it?

Get bigger tire! This way you can drive with 70mph and you odometer will show 60mph. The result: more real miles for waranty
