Hi there
I came across this thread:
nissan-hardbody-timeline-t568948.html
while searching the internet for information for my hardbody's. Was very interesting reading that thread.
We got one 1991 VGE30i, manual 4x4 King Cab that I'm currently trying to save and modifiyng for 36" -38" haven't decided yet. And the other one is a 1991 VGE30 automatic 4x4 King Cab, that's going to be a show car for my wife. We have 20" rims and it is going to be hot pink.
The thing is with those 2 is, that far as I know are the only ones left here in Iceland that were made in USA. Most of them were imported from Japan but few of them came in from USA through the army base. Both are fully ecuipped with "luxery" package such as power windows, sunroof and cruise control. Both have the red interior. The automatic one has absolutely no rust in it, (very rare in Iceland). But the other one, I've had to rebuild and replace alot of the body. The bed was very rusted forgot to take pictures while I was working on it. Still not much rust considering we are in iceland.
Here are some pic's of the one I'm currently modifiyng:

Made this my self. Don't know what you call it in america.

Got 35" and put them on 15J8.5 rims fitted nicely under the original flares (I think they are called)

Started to clean up all the rust this summer found out the front fenders were ruined.

Replaced the hood from a 1996 king cab, the old one was very rusted and banged up.

"New" hood fitted on

working on painting the D21. Took everything of and out of him.

Here we started putting everything together again. the doors will be painted next summer. Have to replace the drivers door. going to use the doors from the 1996 D21

Found some very good fenders

Put new 36" Ground Hawk's under it. With a got help from my daugther.

This is basically how it stands now and waits for me to finish.

Sanded and painted the lights and brackets

Hope this is something you guys like. We will post pictures of the other one when we start working on him.

And sorry if my english writing isn't very good I'll try my best ;)

It seems there is not much action here in the truck section ;)

We are wondering does anyone know if this setup on Pathfinder gives you better light than the original on the hardbody. Because they seem to be bigger and do not sit as deep in the grill as they do on the D21.

The truck section has a lot more readers than posters but that fluctuates. As for the pathfinder light set up I say it's way better than the standard set up.

Yes, the red truck originally came with the standard H6054 set up. I had a spare Pathfinder light and grille set up I had grabbed from the junk yard. So I went ahead and installed everything. I am pleased with it. The lighting has much better spread and coverage. The green truck has aftermarket clear H6054 bulbs with replaceable elements, it's OK at best. I am considering doing a Pathfinder swap on that truck as well.

We are wondering about a engine swap. The old 3.0 V6 does not have much left sorry to say. And I want to have a motor (rebuild and ready to go) when the time comes. I have been considering the 2.7 diesel turbo from a Nissan TerranoII, (if I will do a diesel swap). But then I came across same thread, (can't find it now) and the guy but a motor from a Skyline in his truck. With that motor I get much of HP. Mostly here in Iceland it's the torque you're after. Because we have to drive through deep snow and semi frozen lakes and rivers.

All idea's with pros and cons are welcome.

Welcome aboard, smurfmobile! We're glad to have you - It seems like you will be in a constant battle against rust... It's so cool that you have such rare trucks in Iceland!

I think you are on the right path, considering the diesel engine. Do you have the Nissan Navara there?

if you are considering a diesel engine you can use the Sd33t.
Is a 3.3 l6 turbocharged and it was used in the patrol gr and in the International Scout
it have more power and torque then the td27 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32zI71IVGGs

Yeah we do. People almost laugh at me for taking the time to save this truck  About the rust. We use salt on the roads. When we have icy roads, I hate it. That's the main reason for the constant rust battle. But If you keep your truck clean and take good care of it, you can keep the rust problem to the minimum.

I did think about that motor, but is it not to heavy? Because we drive often in a deep powder snow so another thing is to keep in mind is to keep the truck as light as possible. The reason why I am thinking about the 2.7 is because I can get it for cheap and it is cheap to rebuild and maintain. The SD33T wil cost here atleast 4times the cost of a 2.7. Because every man here that has a patrol thinks he has won the golden ticket.
Does anyone here know the full weight of the VG30i With all liquids (oils and water) and everything on it.
and how much does the 2.7 weight and the sd33t

A little update

We did facelift on the lights and grill and put a cd player in and the bose sound system.
We took it out for a testdrive and on one of the hills we came across the motor started acting up. So we are going to take it out and found some 1999 Terrano II 2.7TDi with manual shifter and locks both front and back. Altough we haven't checked out if the locks will fit our car.

This is the hill that almost "killed" the motor. Taken going back down again.

Here is how it looks today with the front fenders from a 1995 Pathfinder 4x4

@jonny 1988, thanks for that. But I have to brake your heart and tell you that I will finish painting it this summer. It's going to be all blue and everything "extra" on the body is going to be white

@Rev_D21 Don't regret it. Got much more spread and coverage as you said.

I posted a video of some Terranos and let me tell you those are some stout little trucks. I thought they looked goofy but that thought was changed once I saw how much you can beat on them.

Good find! This version was produced since 1997 until 1999
The terrano is a relative of our d21 ,infact it derive from the wd21 :)
