I want to move my 2 deep cycle batteries (currently on left and right front side of engine for audio/video upgrade) to the trunk. I'm getting totally hooked up with this system, so I'm not too familiar with it other than I have 2 of those batteries and a crap load of electronics.

I'm not all that familiar with deep cycle batteries, so I was wondering if it would be safe to move them to the trunk or some other interior area. I don't want to blow up anything back there .

Running 89 240sx coupe w/ 12 subs custom mounted in the trunk w/ a few monitors.

I am doing this because I plan on going turbo (have most of my pieces) and need to move them so I can run my piping.

Trunk mounted batteries should not be a hazard as long as you mount them properly. Look inot some "racing style" trunk mount battery boxes. The installation instructions should cover everything thoroughly.

As others often ask how to get 2 - 12's in the trunk of an S13 coupe, could you post some pics?

Three words: West Coast Customs .

I will post pics as soon as I'm allowed to do so, I don't have the car w/ me. You will hear a lot more about this once everything goes through .

Thanks for the tips, now just to figure out where in my trunk I have room, hehe.

I was also thinking possibly passenger side below the glove box - I don't normally have passengers anyway.

I would not recommend inside the passenger compartment. Can't say I've heard of any issues, but I'd rather not have them "in" the car with me.

it is okay to have an optima deep cycle battery in the compartment because it is completely sealed. just make sure that it does not fly around in there

Do you play your electronics alot when the engine is not running?

If not, then you do not need two batteries. When the engine is running, the Alternator is what powers the car.

Deep cycle batteries differ from "standard" batteries in that they can be completely discharged with not many adverse effects. When a standard battery is fully discharged, it will rarely ever come back to "life" on a battery charger. It is as good as dead.

I would suggest putting the batteris in the trunk. One on each side. This should leave you with a little space left.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. Completely sealed optima batteries... I'll look into that, seems very interesting.

Yea, I hope I can fit both batteries back there (them tiny coupe trunks haha).

And PoorManQ45, yea, I plan on bumpin electronics quite a bit (at least when I first get my car back).

Once I get my car back, it will all make sense why there's 2 batteries .

I also have an underdrive pulley (not smart, I know, but I got the pulley never thinkin I'd get crazy electronics).

If you are drawing power from the batteries when the engine is running (electronics playing), you have got a major problem.

Get rid of that underdrive pulley. What little HP you gained(5hp?), you are losing by adding a 25lb battery. You could put underdrive pulleys on other things you know! Try putting one on the AC compressor. Alot of power is wasted there. If you live in a northern state, I would recommend ditching the AC completely.

Yea, my car has an identity crisis. It doesn't know whether it should be show or go, so I did a little of everything .

Well, I'm thinking I won't have much of a problem when driving because only the sound system will be active. There are other electronics/video screens and lights/neons that are powered when the engine is off for show.

Of course there are many ways to deal with this, but so far I've been given 2 batteries, so I'll have to see how this goes.

I may end up taking out some of the electronics if my car cannot handle it.

This will all make more sense to you (and me) once I get to tinker around with my setup in a month when I get the car back and have pictures to upload.
