what year? older ones had 3.8l supercharged 6 cylinders in them

either way you have to consider weight, which is around 3800lbs

the merc is a decent car, the 4.6 always has potential for building, and I believe that car used the same auto that the supercoupes used, which can be built to handle quite a bit of power. If you can get it cheap enough, I would, it make for a good daily driver. It's actually not the same motor in the GT but rather the same motor from the Crown Vic too, not quite as much power right off the bat.

Other than it being a cheaply made, unreliable, heavy, softly sprung, ill handling, gas-guzzler, I suppose it has a lot of potential. I'd pass on it

Oh, I had 3 Merc Gran Marquis. Two with the 5.0 V-8, 1 with the 4.6 liter. I had far fewer problems with the 5.0, than with the 4.6. The 4.6 had a little more grunt, not that much. But I swore off Ford products after that last Merc because it was so unreliable.

It has killer torque though, thats one of the reasons i would consider it.

Im driving auto now and hate it. i really like manual trannys so i might just consider the 85 200sx thats just sitting there.

Well, you're essentially debating if you should go from a boring automatic to another boring automatic that's a faster in a straight line. You might want to test drive one. They're comfortable and have some decent straightline oomph, (V-8 rumble is a great sound)but "exciting" is not a word that came to mind after I drove one.

I wouldn't say the SC'd cars are exciting in really, straight line anyway. The supercharger whine and handling characteristics of the cars make them a blast though (315 foot pounds of torque help too:)) The name Mercury just doesn't excite me for the most part.

i could probably get the 200sx for 200. i dunno if its a good car really. Ive heard theyre good canidates for motorswaps.

The engine looks solid. It had a CA20E under the hood. I heard theyres some models that have better chassis set up than others. something with the rear suspension. dont know what model this is but i know it has an all digital display, tach, and speedo. any info??

yeah, they are pretty damn goood cars. the turbos and v6 models had independent rear suspension. the others didnt. i dont know if you could convert the stuff, but you could see about it. for $200, the car is a steal.

$200 is less than most people pay for non-running parts cars. Unless it belongs to a family member, who's giving it to you I wouldn't excpec it to be instantly driveable and pass inspection. You get what you pay for, and $200 doesn't get you much.

wow i didnt know that these cars had support out there. Sounds like its worth considering.

The price, i havent been quoted on or anything. First off, its at an auto auction. The cars at the back of the lot, no one really pays attention to it. the interior is really torn up. the e-brake doesnt work. its RWD and winter snow is right around the corner. I think 200 bones is a fair price, considering theyre selling newer civics and stanzas for 500 bones.

hell, bet you could pull 50 bucks on it

I wouldn't go too high being as you don't know anything about it though, like how it runs(if it does) or how it rides and all that. Is it a manual or auto?

I'd recommend having a mechanic look it over before bidding. It may cost you only $200 to acquire, but that $200 could be chickenscratch when you start tossing money at it to make it pass inspection. Remember there's a good reason that car is sitting at an auction...in the very back. And it's not because it's pristine. Sounds like a tired parts car. Good luck.
