OK, so last night I noticed this metal tapping or ticking sound coming from my engine at low rpms AFTER warm-up. I was actually already back at home from work (12mile drive). I figure no biggie, just the heat shield, schedule a service and get it taken care of. I call today and they said their are no outstanding recalls on my vehicle (it was a early 08 production). So theyve got me down for first thing monday to bring it in and see what the deal was O_O.. im sad now lol.

ok... after taking my car for a "heavy ride" when i turn it off i hear pings... but i think thats normal from 87 octane lol...

When i start my car (usually has to have not been driven in a few hours) maybe 7-10 seconds after it starts ill hear one TICK... just one though...

Yeah, this is nothing like those pings from low octane being used, nor is it anything from heavy use or being hard on it. This thing only has 2800 miles and has already had 2 oil changes lol. hopefully its nothing major, or just one of those "normal sounds" I came from chevys im use to a ticking sound when they run perfect :P (never did figure out why but it seems every chevy V8 has a distinct tick sound no matter what, even with everything in perfect harmony *shrug*)

they said no recalls? hmm. did they ask for your vin number? thats how they would know that there still is a recall on it. If u had the heatshield recall done before, then its still most likely the same problem, mine had to go twice, the first time fixed it for a day or so but then it began again. the second time they did more to the exhaust heatshield and manifold, I think. that fixed it for good.

they have the vin on file, its the place i bought the car from. It has never had the heat shield fix done, it supposedly came off the assembly line after that was fixed at the plant *shrug*

This is normal with any car. After the exhaust system runs at 300+ degrees for a steady period of time, and the car is shut off, and immediatly the system begins to cool to the outside temperature. The metals contracting to such a low temperature at such a lower rate, will cause this pinging sound like clockwork.

racingtiger, this could be something as easy as using to thin of oil during your last oil change, low oil, or something as serious as a valve tapping. Do you remember the viscosity of the oil during your last change?

no sir, the nissan dealership changed it. So if they fugged it up, thats even more reason that something should get taken care of. And seeing that whoever changed my oil managed to give me a nice scratch under the handle (dealer did take care of that for me somewhat though) I wouldnt doubt using the wrong viscosity or not putting enough in, beyond them =/ .. I hate dealer oil changes.. it took them 2 hours to change my oil and balance the tires -.- (3 people were in and out before me, one for brakes warranty sedan recal, the other for an oil change, and the other for the pcm retune due to the emissions thing *shrug*) If it woudlnt have been free, I wouldve done it myself lol.
