2.5in exhaust on non turbo 280zx

is a 2.5 inch exhaust system over kill on a 1981 280zx non turbo? my NA mustang friends tell me that i might wind up with less horse power in the end. i would love ur help before i do something stupid

For an N/A i would assume soi'd say you might be letting out too much exhaust back pressure and losing horsepowerif it was turbo that might be a different situationi was always taught that a balance in air intake and air exhaust is the best way to gothe more you take in the more you will push out

when you install a larger exhaust whats going to happen is you are going to lose low end torque but you might gain high end power

all this is just my assumption so its your choice to agree or notthis is jsut my beliefes

what if i put in a cam with the exhaust? no other mod , just a cam. would the combination of the 2 give me more power or is that just as bad as the exhaust itself? thanks for the info

the 2.5 should be fine and help you get the most out of any toher mods you might add such as a hot cam, the Nissan Motorsports L7 is still available if you order direct from them, and schnieder was the cheapest IIRC

Can you really lose hp by having too big an exhaust? I wanna put a 3 incher on my Z.

yes you can loose hp but not with 2.5 on 2.8liters, on a turbo you can not go too big, but for n/a you can
