Ok lets start off like this Im Mr Coupe i own an 6 speed manual 3.5 altima Coupe and im pretty good with my car stuff but why is everyone comparing a 2.5 to a 3.5? a 2.5 is as fast as a SCION TC it has about the same HP (175 HP) i dont know which one is lighter but id go with the TC ....(the lighter the car the faster) A 3.5 has a V6 engine 270 HP add about 20-25 more horses and its as fast as a G35 and if ur racing automatic is def. not the way 2 go... 6 speed manual gets u places.

Heh, if the only thing you're considering is speed, then yes it is a no brainer.

Totally agree with you, but some on here are more concerned about other aspects rather than the power. Fuel economy, options, etc are sometimes a higher priority than power. But I'm all about the ponies!!

What kind of an mindless bloke must one be to start a thread like this. Mr_Coupe, how much racing do you actually do. I enjoy reading posts like this from people that talk about power and speed and racing when in fact, they don't even know how to drive properly. All things aside, there are many factors that go into purchasing a car besides horsepower. It seems as though you are much too naive to notice or understand this.

Also, if you you think your precious 3.5SE with 270 bhp is fast, then I challenge you to a race in my 370 bhp S60R or my friend's 483 bhp supercharged Impreza WRX or even my neighbor's stock M3 which he got for the same price as your coupe. Just to prove my point, sometimes horsepower isn't everything.

I agree that people make car decisions based on a number of factors. I hope we can "all get along", unfortunately, human nature has it that some people feel better than others because of the material possessions they own, which is pretty sad, but this is life.

I love my 2.5, wish I could have gotten every option available, every package option, but that was not something I was willing to do, based on a number of reasons, none of which was speed.

A 3.5 guy may pat himself on the back that he doesn't have a 2.5. Then a G35 cat comes by, pats himself on the back because he doesn't have a poor man's G35, he's got the real deal. Then some guy comes by with something a little nicer, BMW, Lexus, Benz, and it never really quite ends.

In any event, 2.5, 3.5, 2008, 2006, Coupe, Sedan, Technology, Premium, 20 inch rims, stock rims, nav systems, we are all in the same Altima family--we should act like it.

I second that

Like I posted earlier, it's all about priorities. Initially when shopping for an Altima, I was going with the 2.5 because I was tired of paying $350 a month in gas. My truck got about 15mpg and I got sick of making a trip to the gas pump every 4-5 days. So, I was so set on a 4-banger. That is, until I test drove the 3.5 first. My mistake! If I didn't test drive it, I would've gotten the 2.5. But I have no regrets, I'm happy with my purchase. My truck is now my weekend toy and my Alty is my commuter.

Amen. Couldn't have said it any better.

Fortunately, we have an ignoramus like Mr_Coupe who we can laugh at.

I think that if you were trying to purchase a race car... you made the wrong choice, personally I bought the 2.5 for its looks not its horses. If I was looking for a race car in the 3.5 price range I definitely would have been looking elsewhere. Over here in Canada for the money they want for the 3.5 I could have bought an Audi or BMW or a WRX and the list goes on. Some of us make our choices based on looks, comfort, options, fuel economy, and the fact that the 2.5 still has plenty of power over other cars in the price range.Living in the city it seemed quite pointless to have another 100 horses just to get to that next red light half a second quicker.

LOL. True that. No matter what, someone else always has a 'better' car... unless you own the 8 million dollar car... well...that'll change too, lol.

People can compare, each has their pro's, and con's. Some people would take a 2.5 over a 3.5 and vice versa for many reasons. That goes for other brands as well.........cars get compared. Hell, lots of things in life get compared.

I went with a 2.5 because my parents helped me pay for it. I had already pushed my price limit up from a 16k tc to a 23k altima coupe. the 3.5 really wasnt an option for me.

See i dont understand the whole racing thing... unless you are literally on a track... and have a # on your windshield... who really cares? On my drive to work everymoring i pass so many high end cars.. CL55's... M3's... etc... And i am always passing everyone... No one cruises over 70... Whats the point of getting a car thats 200+ hp if you arent gonna crank it? Mind you, some people actually do "open up" their cars on the road... but the vast majority are sitting in the right lane. And i got a 2.5 because i go fast enough anyways and for gas, but bc of my speeding.. i still only get 23mpg... on the 3.5 im assuming it would be somewhere around 18

270 HP in a FWD and then calling it a racing car. That's funny.

I am for the larger engine if you can afford it. It's a pleasure to drive when the car doesn't make a lot of noise because the engine's straining.

I agree...270 in a FWD isn't much of a racing car. Power is good, but there needs to be a balance. We're talking about 3.5 liter coupes, not Porsches, BMW M or AMG MBs. I just can't understand why so many 3.5 people are bragging about their 270 bhp and about the fact that the coupe can go 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. It may seem impressive on paper, but how often do these owners actually floor their coupe to get from 0-60? How often do they actually drag race other drivers on the road, and for what purpose? If you want to race, get a racing car. All of these great things about the coupe (0-60 times, 1/4 times, top speed, etc) are great, but how often are they attained or used? In the end, everything is relative...

Actually I found myself flooring my coupe a lot since I live next to highway entries and boy does it feel good And I did a couple of impromptu drag races and that was such a rush lol.

but I like both the 2.5S and the 3.5SE since both have their qualities

The 2.5S is gorgeous and fuel efficient (SHIFT_2.5S that one was for you, your as much part of the family as all the 3.5SE, since that without all the 2.5S sales, the altima coupe would have been a flop), and the 3.5SE is also gorgeous but very powerful and can whoopass all those cars:
