Is it true that the 2.5 doesn't come with traction control? Would this be a problem living in northern illinois where we have some pretty snowy winters?

No, it wouldn't be a problem. You generally do not need traction control for gutless motors, especially in a front wheel drive

Just don't mash the accellerator while trying to turn in heavy snow and you will be just fine!

Traction Control? You mean the handy dandy Nissan Acceleration Control System. You know that button you turn off on your dash to keep the car from killing your throttle at the most in opportune time. I would think it would be a problem. My Altima 2.5S did pretty well in the rain and the snow in Indiana. I can't say having traction control in my 3.5 Altima is inherently better. I turn it off half the time.
