I would like to know what the opinions are regarding the 2.5 L engine with CVT transmission - are there any problems with it, what are the good, the bad etc.. Would you recommend it, or recommend going for the much larger 3.5 L engine?

I have this powertrain in my Rogue and really enjoy it most of the time, although the CVT is pretty unresponsive - it takes quite a while to "shift" gears when you step it down, and there is quite a delay before the power kicks in. But I love the fuel efficiency that this powertrain provides. What does everyone think? Thanks in advance!

I say go with the 3.5 and choose the cvt if you drive mostly in traffic. if not then take the 6MT if you want instant shifts + the thrills that come with it

the 2.5S is a peppy number but you might get power hungry later the line and regret it

The 3.5 engine appears to have less problems than the 2.5's.

My personal choice was between the hybrid and the 3.5. I was either going to get great mileage and save $$$ in fuel cost/year, or I was going to get decent mileage and good performance. And since my dealer couldn't work a deal to get a hybrid here in SC, my choice was already made.

If you choice is strictly between the 2.5 and the 3.5: I'd recommend you get the 3.5 if you can afford the small hit in mpg and $0.20 on top of the price per gallon of regular.

Anyone have problems with the CVT transmission yet? A few Rogue forum members with the same transmission are having problems, but I think it's related to the transfer case for the AWD system, which you can't blame on the CVT. This seems to be a very, very low percentage of owners however... How bout you Altima owners?

No problems with the transmission on my car, which is a coupe with the 2.5 mated to the CVT. My guess would be that the transmission on the Altima is tuned a little more "sporty" than on the Rogue, as I wouldn't say that my transmission is "unresponsive." I get about 24mpg driving strictly in the city, and am very happy with the power train, as well as the car in general.

It's a good powertrain to me. The car is very responsive on throttle. It revs the engine almost immediately after you put the pedal down. Of course, it's not nearly as responsive as the V6, but you shouldn't expect that from a 4-cyl either.

I have 3000 miles on my car. No problems so far.
