As my fellow 2.5L Coupe owners are aware, Nissan is fixing the problem with the rattling exhaust heat shield for free. Since I hadn't seen a post about the resolution yet, I figured I'd share the info.

I just got a letter in the mail today. They said to make an appointment with the dealer, and they will either install an additional bracket to stop the vibration or install a new heatshield.

I made my appointment for Jan. 31st... I'll let ya know how it turns out.

*EDIT* I put "recall" in quotes because I don't think this is officially a recall yet.

Yea... I had this problem when I first got the car. They replaced my whole heatshield and I also think he said the manifold.

Before... when I used to start my car on cold starts(usually after it sit overnight) for the first 30 seconds or so it would make this god awful sound. It sounded like metal grinding on metal, it was very loud and noticeable. After the car had 'warmed' up... or as soon as I put it in drive that sound was gone. Even if you turned the car on and put it in D right away... the sound would go away.

I left it overnight so they could hear the noise... it took 2 days and they gave me a rental but I think that was just because they needed to order the parts. Hopefully since this is a recall... now they have the parts ready to go.

about 45minutes. As a matter of fact. I had mine fixed about 2 1/2 months ago and the rattling is back again. I was wondering. If I take it to nissan tomorrow. Would they fix it free of charge even though I had it done before??

Yes they should. It's a recall issue, those are always free. It doesn't even fall under warranty because Nissan is inviting you to get it fixed voluntarily.

PS - My heatshield has been repaired...they also checked out a TPMS recall that was recently added on nissanhelp, and they also re-repaired the headliner....but I haven't been able to drive it yet...shes sittin in the garage, waiting for the storm to pass...I'm bootin around in the '05 altima.
