Ok i am a sentra guy as you can see in my sig, but i am interested in cvt's. More specifically the differences in them across Nissan's lineup.

I have seen posted many times that the 2.5 altima and the 3.5 have the same cvt mated with them, but the further i research, the more i am thinking other wise. I just need someone that KNOWS or has some solid info one way of the other to confirm or deny.

The cvt's are made by a company called JATCO and the numbers and specifications as stated by JATCO says that they are different, but i am looking for someone that knows because this info came from the internet.

ALTIMA 07-08 CVT FWD L4 2.5L RE0F10A JATCO JF011E
ALTIMA 07-08 CVT FWD V6 3.5L RE0F09B JATCO JF010E

Yes, the two CVTs are definitely different from the 2.5L to the 3.5L. They're different part numbers from Nissan's various OEM parts websites. The FSM also suggests that they're different trannies as well.

You looking for a replacement or something?

Just getting info on all the different platforms with jatco cvt's. There have been ppl interested in tuning and adding power on both the 2.5 and 2.0 sentras with cvt's, so i was just exploring the different platforms and options. The best stuff i have found is actually on lancer forums.

Can you direct me to those parts websites?

The CVTs blow/fail under N/A power. Adding more power is just shortening the CVT life. There are a few that are lucky thus far though.

Boosting is not recommended on CVT. It cannot handle the torque and thrashing it will endure. You'd be find adding regular N/A mods though such as a header, intake, exhaust, etc.

The 3.5L CVT and 2.5L CVT are different.

If you are thinking about boosting I would suggest a transmission cooler and a backup fund.

is it possible to opt out of the cvt for the 2.5 or 3.5?? or does that entail doing a transmission swap?

Opt out? When you purchase the car you have the choice of getting a car with a 6 speed manual or the automatic CVT transmission. If you wish to get a 6 speed manual and you have already purchased and drive the automatic CVT you will need a LOT of things to swap it. It's not even worth it money wise.

- Transmission.
- Pedals.
- Shifter/cables.

Etc.

the 6speeds are a bit more difficult to track down though

Took me a good while to find mine. You might as well order the car from Nissan. Once you do that, all your negotiation abilities go out the window. I lucked out when I found mine, but still had to drive 4 hours to the dealership that had it.
