Howdy folks, I was just poking around under my cars hood, trying to imagine the Injen intake in there. On the pictures that I have seen of the intake on both the 2.5L and 3.5L coupes, the people have left the stock pipe (outlined in green in the following image thumnail) that comes from the front of the car into the OEM air box. I was wondering if anybody knew if that comes off. It seems to be only held on by a few bolts on my 2.5, but I don't know if there is anything important stuck to it; I don't want useless plastic there. Anyway, my plan is to order the black Injen intake and have it, along with the engine cover, painted to match the car. <my car, stock

Intake installed, with the plastic piping left on:

Hope somebody knows if its safe to take it off or not, thanks for reading.

I think if you are going to paint it silver.. it may be easier to paint a chrome one rather than black one... as for the plastic... im wondering just like you are

correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that tubing direct air into the engine bay? It seems to me that it does and it directs it towards the intake.. But I guess taking it off would allow for more airflow into the engine bay...hmm, if you do this, let us know how the vehicle performs after. It may be no different, may be better, may be worse...

I thought about that, I guess that thats what its there for (to provide a direct air flow to the air box). I just went and looked at it again, and it seems to draw air after it has passes through the radiator... that area. So, its pretty hot air, but anything in the engine bay is hot...

I'm driving w/ that air tube off. It does direct air into the airbox, and in some of the other coupes, to the cone filter, but it's other function is to muffle the noise of air being sucked into the engine. In regards to any performance difference removing it and driving around w/ the stock air box, I can notice a bit more quicker response in acceleration. Definitely a little better in the low end of the power band.
