im shopping around for wheels and i found a set of vielside 3pc wheels. i was talking to some people on a local site, and this is a guys response about the topic.

i was wondering what you guys all thought about it.

I'm not big on 2 piece wheels to begin with.

You're not afraid of them failing?

The Kelsey haynes 70's steelies were a two piece wheel. They are different than those construction but are widely considered deathtraps[/quote]my original question was about taking the face of the wheel off for powdercoating.

Umm... if theres no damage to the wheels, they arent dangerous.

Im not too knowledgeable on 3pc wheels but i've gone through 2pc ones because of a couple buddies i knew.

But when you take them apart and put them back together, you do realize you have to find a new gasket for the face ( material used in between the face and barrel) unless you can reuse the original, very unlikely. And new hardware would be recommended.

Finding the correct gasket and where to buy it is usually the biggest pain in the ***.

some 2 piece wheels are meant to be serviced, meaning you can take them apart powercoat and reassemble without issue, just be sure you do not coat the mounting surface you want a positive, even, flat contact, other 2 piece wheels are press fit or heat fit before bolting and in some cases welding, these are not servicable, check with the wheel manufacturer, if they sell new centers and shells seperately then they are servicable, if not then you'll want to not try taking them apart

Which veilside wheels are they? They should actually be 3pc, and originally manuf by SSR. No probs disassembling them to refinish the faces and lips... but it'd be best to let a real wheel shop do the work. Plenty of random shops just use impact guns to R&R wheels, which ain't the best idea

Some shops will just reassemble multi-pc wheels by tightening the bolts in a circular pattern, and to whatever torque specs their impact guns can do... kinda scary. With 2-pc wheels, your main concern when doing that is the possibility of not having the center be perfectly aligned... while with 3-pc wheels you have to worry about that, and the possibility of leaks in between the halves, especially if they're not well-aligned, and there's no new silicone bead run to seal the seam
