so the delayed 2-3 seems to be a very common symptom on all but the best maintained units.i got to thinking that maybe there is an in situ enhancement that can be made by re-ringing the 2-3 accumulator piston to bring up the applied pressure a bit. yeah, yeah i know it doesn't fix slipping clutches, but has anyone tried this? i already ordered the 2 o-rings from IoS, when i ordered my screen&gasket. thinking about dropping the vb, too and giving it a shot.

thoughts?

You know I got the same feeling as you, seeing how its so common... Its a common problem on the Lincoln mark VIII transmission as well...

How much was the stuff?? I dont know how hard it would be but my 2-3 shift is kinda crappy... If it could be fixed in an afternoon with not mayn parts, seems like the way to go!

My '94 Q45a has a long shift 2-3 under very very light throttle when cold. It seems to take a long time for engine timing to return. Other than the first few minutes--perfect. I am convinced its in the temp semsors and is engine power reduction, not clutch make-up.

Totally uncommon on all three of my Q45. I never drive cold, though. Shifts are lazier at part throttle, but really crisp at WOT.

Your Q45s have less miles than ours do... You have less than 100k on all of yours.....

IM kind of surprised mine is as bad as it is because thers only 35k or so on this transmission rebuilt by level ten! Plus mine is about the same when its cold or not (slightly better when its warm).....

less than $4 for the 2 o-rings.

i'll probably not do this right away though---water pump leaking.....it's parked until the parts come in.

ALright well let us know how it turns out, if you decide to do it..

im going to do some more research, but i think once you get the pan down it should be fairly easy to replace the 2-3 accumulator rings

Yes all less than 65K. Paid too much so I could get them before they were abused too much.

If your transmission has only 35K, don't know why it would have the shift problem.

I dont either.. Ive tried a lot, however i may do a full flush and pan drop and then see if that does anything...

Might call LeEvel Ten an see what parts they routinely reuse. I bet they don't replace everything, but just common wear items. The faulty part may have more than 35K miles on it. Maybe do the solenoid upgrade suggested by the automatic transmission guy. Where'd he go anyway?

ok, i did this.

I'll post up separate on the valve body and the results. It is possible to do this up on jackstands, but not a lot of fun.I'm getting too old to lay on my back on a concrete slab....

the 2-3 piston is the second from the left. compressed air in the hole at the '2 o'clock' of the first piston, or '10 o'clock' of the subject. blew right out of there, got a spray of fluid on my face [yes, i was using a rag].ok, post up on how you think my internals look. this is after 3 drain and fills spaced 50-100 miles apart. the magnet was not too goopey. maybe i caught this one in time [102.3k at purchase].

here's the 2 o-rings. 41x02 $1.86, 41x03 $2.05. If you are going this far, might as well splurge for the other 6 o-rings and re-ring all 4 pistons [ i did not]

and just a tease for the valve body thread to come...... the three springs do pop out on you whilst lowering the vb.
