2+2 transmission work

hey guys i recently bought another transmission for my 1990 2+2 automatic because the current is going.and i plan on changing it myself.. my first question is what kind of tools will i be needing also a guide or link of some sort would be nice. my next question i want to know is if i have a complete trans it came with the trans , torque converter, and what seems to look like heat shield or like a piece of metal that keeps dirt out but it looks like it goes on the bottom half ... thanks
