Hi,

I fired up my VH45 yesterday.

Quick tune on dyno with aftermarket ECU (Adaptronic e1280s)

Power curve nice and linear.

Peak power 275kw (368.5hp) At the wheels.

Only running 4.5psi for intial tune and to sort chassis.

Dyno sheet shows falter at 3700 to 4300rpm, dropped cylinder no. 8 momentarily, then at 5600rpm started dropping all cylinder one at a time. Firmware issue with triggering of new ecu, now resolved and will dyno again tomorrow with more rpm.

Does any one else have boost tuning experience??

I am running 22deg timing at 6000rpm. At 4.5psi. on United 100 ron pump fuel.

More specs on my website http://www.mrcdyno.com.au

Will post more info soon.

Thanks,

Mark.

Nice project mateI got a VH41 twin turbo in my LJ 2 doorIm definitely not getting the power youre getting, mine needs tuning though, plus my turbo plumbing/intercooler is pretty restrictive. Will upgrade in the future.Pretty interesting youre getting that power at 4.5 boost. Nice work

Nice work! And a very interesting intake manifold!

Eager to see more details...

that manifold is BAD-AZZ.... your website says twin 60mm TBs, are those from an RB or something like that?

Looking good. I'm not sure I can help you with your aftermarket ECU tuning but I have a lot of experience tuning the OEM ECU. Here are my "safe" fuel and timing maps that I use in the summer...FYI

And here's my timing Map Trace @ 8 psi of boost.

Im guessing the TB are from either RB or Ford Falcon 6 cylinder. We like useing the Ford TB here because theyre cheap and a good size.

I am tuning my VH45 more with more boost.

Nice set up on the intake plenum. Twin 60mm's TB are sufficient? No intercooler?

Love your work Mark, top effort. Sounds like you are in need of some 600hp turbo's

Would love to see some detailed shots of the exhaust manifold. How did it go with clearance of the steering column? It seems there is a lot more space in a r31 compared to the VL.

Ariel

ps - can you get the exhaust manifold flanges? I have a set that came withthe engine but they are only 8mm mild steel and the ports dont match at all.

Hi again,

New firmware loaded, revs cleanly now, to my 7200rpm limiter.

Power at 4.5psi is 279.3kw (374.3hp)

Power at 6 psi is 310.4kw (416.2hp)

Power at 8 psi so far is 329.8kw (441.9hp)

All figures quoted are AT THE WHEELS.

Haven't finished tune yet. Still have a stalling issue with triggering, but hopefully fixed on monday 4th Jan, 2010.

I am posting dyno graphs of 4.5psi and the 6 psi, i forgot to take a pic of last one.

My goal is to get a flat torque curve, so i will be ramping boost up from 4.5 at 2700rpm to max of 15psi at 7200rpm. Hoping for max 400kw (536hp) with 740cc injectors and twin Walbro pump setup.

I will run around at around 330kw (442hp) for a while to get used to it and to setup chassis.

Cheers,

Mark

Hey mate,

Yes stock internals, stock injectors, stock heads, stock cams, stock springs, replaced broken guides with metal timing chain guides.

Modded inlet manifold with 2 x 60mm R32 GTS-t RB20 throttle bodies to allow easier pipework and more symetrical design.

I will see how much power i can get out of standard injectors, I must be close now. I have 740cc injectors ready to install.

Anyone got new ignition coils for sale or a supplier of new coils?

Thanks,

Mark.

are you still running the stock oil pickup in the sump? we have wrecked two vh45s in the space of a year due to oil surge and spun bearings,i should have seen this problem earlier, the wet sump jet sprint boats we worked on had a simple trapdoor set up in a diamond shape with a square pickup in the middle thats only 3mm from the bottom of the sump and i have never seen any of the motors suffer oil surge, the VH45 pickup is far to big with a pitiful opening and huge bowl shape which spelt disaster when launching hard of the line at the drags,a couple of other fellow people on the forum have suffered the same sort of surge problems,im starting to mod the standard sump with the diamond trapdoor setup, should be done in a month or so,will stick photos up when i complete it so people can copy, just a thought because there is nothing worse than spinning bearings when the car seems so strong and powerful.

Are you running a MAF or did you convert to a MAP sensor? I don't see a MAF under the hood and would like to hear what you've done.

Car looks awesome by the way, I love it! You need to get some video of this beast on the dyno or on the street for that matter!

Hi,

I am running an aftermarket ecu called an Adaptronic e1280s. http://www.adaptronic.com.au

It has a 3 bar map sensor. seqential fuel and spark.

I got the engine with broken chain guides and no loom, ecu or MAF.

The engine is looking good now so I will put some more boost in and max out injectors.

thanks,

Would something like an accusump oil accumulator help prevent this?

Hey everyone,

No more power yet.

Had issue with max duty reached at 5800rpm, 8psi, shutting off injectors.

Firmware being re-written now.

Will have more results soon.

Been tuning today 39.6deg celcius.

Dyno room is 45 deg celcius.

Lots of sweat.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Mark

Got a set of 8 brand new coil packs from Nissan cost $1500, and a long wait, I am getting ready to start up my motor (second one i bought) so could be disposing of coil packs if interested.

$1500 for a set of coils

Should have gone aftermarket coils and ran wires, like a LS1.

The coils would probably run cooler if you mount them away from the cam covers. Probably last longer
