Just an FYI, the Audi club is offering a 1 day hi-performance driving school at Summit Point Raceway's Jefferson Circuit on Saturday 9/21 designed for 1st timers. Any make car is fine, no special mods for car or driver. Summit Point is about 90 minutes west of Baltimore and DC, not far from Winchester VA (just across the WV border)

It's a full day of adrenaline therapy. Besides time on SP's nice skidpad (very large circular track wetted down), there will be slalom + threshold braking excercises, some classroom instruction plus plenty of track time with an instructor on Jefferson Circuit, a devilishly fun little track. It's an friendly, relaxed event, and a controlled environment (ie. no trading paint) You also can ride with instructors in their cars, many of whom bring some very interesting cars, including this one old guy in a red 350Z ;) .

Cost is about $190 + a membership fee for Audi Club. There are spots open, and it's a full day of auto awesomness.

If you wanted to improve your driving skills or want to see what it's like to drive your own car on a racetrack, this is a bargain.

It starts pretty early in the morning. If you decide to arrive the night before, they have a $77 special room rate at the Hampton Inn in Winchester (15-20 minutes from the track).

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Hope to see some of you there.

They really do. Summit Point is also home to BSR, which trains FBI, police, Secret Service, etc, on "real" driving, like hi speed pursuit, escapes, and j-turns. They have a huge fleet of old crown vic/caprice cruisers that they use and crash around. I got to spend some time with a few BSR guys who impressed me when one told me in a smooth southern drawl... "goin' fast around a track is fun, but "real drivin" is doing it while someone's trying to kill you.... :yesnod

Of course, there won't be any crashing or gunfire allowed at this event but as info, there are still spots open, and according to the attendee list, the list of cars contains an '89 240x and a Fiat 500 Abarth. Love to catch a ride in the Fiat.

I'm back. wish you guys coulda been there. What a great day. It did rain a bit in the afternoon, which made for some fun sliding, but the heavy rains held off until after the event concluded. A few pics:

The Hampton Inn I stayed at was full, and I had to suffer thru an upgrade to a Jacuzzi suite at the discounted single room rate. Ah, the sacrifices one must make for the car hobby.

A sampling of the variety of cars there. One of two R8's, and a Fiat Abarth. I was working the slalom in the morning before taking a student in the afternoon, so I got to ride in every student car including these. Those R8's are simply amazing cars.

Gorgeous old Audi sleeper. Has 300+ hp turbo motor and a fresh paint job.

Nice surprise, another Nissan there besides mine. 1989 S13, lotsa mods. Didn't look under the hood but I believe it had the SR swap. I rode in it a few times. Had some nice pep to it. Almost made me miss my S13. Old but still a sexy car.

Another view:

My friend's 2nd gen MR2 Turbo. Now with a new exhaust + bigger turbo. I've driven it before, great little car. Like a lotus that you can easily climb out of.

And of course, a pic of my ol' car...

Next up for me is 2 or 4 days at VIR next month. If anyone is interested in that, I'll provide the link

a few more shots.

My next track day car...It's a little SRF. Spec Race Ford. It's essentially a formula car with fiberglass body. ford escort motor with a 5 speed transmission. Owner let me drive it. LOVED it. Surprisingly roomy, so agile, so fun. Brought back a rush of memories from when I drove the Barber formula cars.

Another shot...

the SRF's jack... That's a modded Acura Intergra type R in front of it.

Image

The interior. Very simple. surprisingly comfortable. Can't see directly behind you but the mirrors are small but work pretty well.

Image

My student's 1st Gen TT Quattro. Very nice little car. And that's a TT RS beside it.

Oh yeah. VIR is awesome, so worth the trip. Audi has the full course Sat + Sun 11/9-10. Then Trackdaze, with whom I've worked a few times, has it Mon/Tues.
