Since I hadn't done anything to my Versa other than the ham radio install mentioned in another thread, something had to be done...

The "Detector Of Nonnormative And Lurching Driving” (abbreviated as “DONALD”) is my first attempt at customization. The pictures tell the whole story.

1) Indication of a hard right turn

2) Indication of a hard left turn

3) Indication of a very hard left turn

4) Indication of a hard stop

5) Installation details

DONALD’s got the added benefit of being like those “If you can read this you’re too close” stickers. Anybody riding on my bumper will get a good indication of my fellings!

(Sorry for the dirty car, but the extreme drought here has led to a car washing ban… But I could retake these pictures after a good car-washing if there’s enough demand for an article or gallery entry...!)

I love it! Should be standard on all V's by 2010, right?

Well, it's in two, so far. My daughter saw the original and fell in love with it, so I "installed" it in her Versa and got another for mine!

you are awesome!! That's great!

...

and if you have a wreck, it could possibly be the thing that kills you... (wow, I wrote that, thinking it was funny... but realized that my work has made me incredibly warped... On the upside, if you died by taking a wooden duck to the head in this manner, I probably wouldn't come across that police report... ;oD yea... I'm so incredibly warped. Sorry all.)

I was too lazy to post on this thread, but I remember the first day this was up I thought to myself, "Oh cooool, somebody finally got one of those little brake light indicators for the front of the car...*opens topic* WTFH! Oh wow that's neat and creative."

After that I thought how bad it would suck if you got hit by it or something.

Well, he does get moved to the floor or trunk when there's somebody in the back seat. He's actually resin, not wood, so he's pretty heavy, and could cause some damage, although that also keeps him in place when he falls backward. I'd think he'd have to be catapulted to actually make it as far as my seat.

But you guys are right. He'll probably get a bolt to the feet through the tonneau cover on the right side and forever be limited to indicating my feelings to following drivers. I guess I'll have to learn to watch my turns and stops by myself! (Although it's funny how much I've actually adjusted my driving to keep him from sliding around or falling over so much!)

Couldn't have said it better, ok I probably could, but you still made a good point

I've taken many safety courses over my 33 years and ALL of them that involved a vehicle mentioned not having loose items in and about the car. The duck is cute, but should be removed immediately for your safety as well as anyone in the vehicle. Bolting it to the little cover isn't going to do either. A bolt will tare right through that. Please at least take it out of your daughters car. I couldn't bare to read about her being in an accident...

As an example, a 16oz bottle of Sprite becomes lethal at 30mph.

*EDIT* you could always make it from a soft foam...just an idea because I love the Donald.

Point taken. And I wish I could make him out of foam, but I'm not that artistic. I got this one through my work. (I work for "The Mouse"...) Maybe he'll just have to end up being a parked car guard!
